Assessing climate literacy
Climate literacy plays a crucial role in shaping individuals’ behaviours and attitudes toward climate change. Existing measurement tools vary in scope, leading to heterogeneous understandings of climate literacy. This study aimed to develop and validate the Climate Literacy Scale using a multi-step, iterative approach. The tool covers three domains: climate knowledge (factual and procedural), climate attitude (individual and collective), and clim…
Relational conflicts during Covid-19
This study explored the association between pandemic-related loss/reduction of employment, sex, COVID-19-related stress and relational conflicts. A sample of 5103 Canadians from the iCARE study were recruited through an online polling firm between October 29, 2020, and March 23, 2021. Logistic regressions revealed that participants with loss/reduction of employment were 3.6 times more likely to report increased relational conflicts compared to th…
The impact of Covid-19 on the lives of Canadians with and without non-communicable chronic diseases
Results suggest that people with NCDs in general and women in general have been disproportionately more impacted by the pandemic, and that women with NCDs have suffered greater psychological distress (i.e., feeling anxious, depressed) compared to men, and men with NCDs reported having increased their alcohol consumption more since the start of COVID-19 compared to women. Findings point to potential intervention targets among people with NCDs (e.g…
Canadian healthcare workers’ mental health and health behaviours during the Covid-19 pandemic
Results demonstrate that the impacts of COVID-19 on HCWs' mental health and health behaviours were significant, and varied by sociodemographic characteristics (e.g., sex, age, income)
Health psychology and behavioral medicine researchers in Canada
The purpose of this study is to characterize contemporary Canadian health psychology through an environmental scan by identifying faculty, research productivity and strengths, and collaborator interconnectivity. Profiles at Canadian universities were reviewed for faculty with psychology doctorates and health psychology research programs. Publications were obtained through Google Scholar and PubMed (Jan/18-Mar/21). A total of 284 faculty were iden…
Covid-19 Is Not the Flu
Background: COVID-19 has caused a global public health emergency. Government mitigation strategies included a series of behavior-based prevention policies that had a likely impact on the spread of other contagious respiratory illnesses, such as seasonal influenza. Our aim was to explore how 2019–2020 influenza tracked onto COVID-19 pandemic and its mitigation methods. Materials and Methods: We linked the WHO FluNet database and COVID-19 confirmed…

Evaluation of Communication Skills Among Physicians
No Need for a Master Plan
Having a well thought out grand strategy does not necessarily lead to foreign policy success in the short and long term. A decision-making process based on adaptation and learning from the context and crises faced may guarantee superior strategic performance. This is the counterintuitive argument Popescu makes by drawing on research from the business literature. Challenging the conventional wisdom of the dominant grand strategy school, he argues …
