Perceived Risk and HPV Vaccination Awareness Among Women in Rural and Underserved Communities in the State of Louisiana
Despite the availability of effective preventive measures, women in rural and underserved communities of Louisiana face health disparities regarding human papillomavirus infections. This study explores how perceived risk and socioeconomic factors, such as income, influence HPV vaccine awareness and attitudes toward HPV risk. A cross-sectional study was conducted among women in rural and underserved areas of Louisiana from November 2022 to Decembe…
An examination of the relationships between the neighborhood social environment, adiposity, and cardiometabolic disease risk in adolescence
Neighborhood social environment measures of chronic stress exposure were associated with excess adiposity during adolescence, and relationships were most consistently identified among adolescents living in the most disadvantaged and disordered neighborhoods. Future studies should account for the influences of the neighborhood environment to stimulate equitable improvements in adolescent health. CLINICAL TRIALS REGISTRATION: # NCT02784509

The Effects of Alcohol Consumption on Cardiometabolic Health Outcomes Following Weight Loss in Premenopausal Women with Obesity
Alcohol (i.e., ethanol) is consumed regularly by much of the adult population; yet, the health effects associated with its use are not well-characterized. Clinical interventions to investigate the effects of moderate alcohol consumption on metabolic outcomes, including adiposity and cardiovascular risk factors, are limited and have yielded conflicting data. In addition, no study has reported the effects of routine alcohol intake during weight los…
Psychological mechanisms associated with food security status and BMI in adults
Objective: This study examined psychological constructs (delay discounting, grit, future time perspective and subjective social status) in relation to food security status and body weight. Design: A simultaneous triangulation mixed methods design was used to collect quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data were collected in fifty-six adults. Independent variables included food security status (food secure or food insecure) and BMI cat…
