Isotopic Reconstruction of the Late Longshan Period (ca. 4200-3900 BP) Dietary Complexity before the Onset of State-Level Societies at the Wadian Site in the Ying River Valley, Central Plains, China
During the late Longshan period (ca. 4200-3900 BP) settlements on the Central Plains of China underwent a diversification in food production technologies, which set the stage for rapid economic and social development. The introduction of novel domesticates such as rice, wheat, cattle, and sheep not only provided more food choices, but also changed ideas concerning land use, farming techniques, and the use and mobilization of large scale labor for…
An Isotopic Perspective on Animal Husbandry at the Xinzhai Site During the Initial Stage of the Legendary Xia Dynasty (2070-1600 BC)
Located in the Central Plains of China, the early Xia Dynasty site of Xinzhai (2050 BC-1750 BC) with large archaeological features and exquisite artifacts of jade and copper is pivotal for probing the origin and formation of Chinese civilisation. Here, stable isotope ratios analysis, supplemented by zooarchaeological results, was used to investigate the exploitation and management of animals utilised by humans. It was demonstrated that a diverse …
Inhibition Effects of Scorpion Venom Extracts ( Buthus matensii karsch) on the Growth of Human Breast Cancer MCF-7 cells
Background: To observe the inhibition effects of the Buthus matensii Karsch (BmK) scorpion venom extracts on the growth of human breastcancer MCF-7 cells, and to explore its mechanisms. Methods: Two common tumor cells (SMMC7721, MCF-7) were examined for the one which wasmore sensitivity to scorpion venom by MTT method. Cell cycle was determined by flow cytometry. Immunocytochemistry was applied to detect apoptosis-related protein Caspase-3 and Bcl…
Improved Application of Bomb Carbon in Teeth for Forensic Investigation
While radiocarbon is widely applied in dating ancient samples, recent studies reveal that 14 C concentrations in modern samples can also yield precise ages due to the atmospheric testing of thermonuclear devices between 1950 and 1963. 14 C concentrations in both enamel and organic matter of 13 teeth from 2 areas in China were examined to evaluate and improve this method of forensic investigation. Choosing enamel near the cervix of the tooth can r…
