Stone Artifacts and Glass Tools from Enslaved African Contexts on St. Kitts' Southeast Peninsula
St. Kitts, the first permanent English colony in the Caribbean, was dominated by sugar monoculture. During the island’s mid-eighteenth-century financial and political heights, the southeast peninsula was home to several sugar and cotton plantations. Recent excavations have recovered considerable data relating to the enslaved Africans who worked these plantations, including an assemblage of stone and glass tools. Vemurafenib and ipilimumab
Vemurafenib and ipilimumab are important advances in the treatment of metastatic melanoma. Benefit is typically short lived for vemurafenib and uncommon for ipilimumab. Neither agent is curative, and clinical trials remain an alternative first-line treatment option.

African slave craftsmen and single-hole bone discs from Brimstone Hill, St Kitts, West Indies
Recent excavations in African slave contexts at Brimstone Hill, St Kitts, West Indies have produced well preserved animal bones. These faunal remains suggest that African slaves were provisioned with imported salt beef and pork as well as locally raised sheep and goats. Slave craftsmen appear to have manufactured numerous single-hole bone discs that probably served as cores for cloth covered buttons. Bones from sea turtle carapaces and cattle rib…
In Search of Coosa
The recently published reconstruction of Hernando de Soto's route through the southeastern United States, and of the chiefdom of Coosa (Hudson et al. 1985), is critiqued. The researchers' estimates of time traveled by the expedition, their use of certain vague or unreliable sources, and their interpretation of archaeological data are questioned. These problems weaken their claims that their reconstruction is better than the Soto route originally …
