  • Leveraging Political Ideology and Brand Type

L Hu, Weilu Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Interactive Advertising•2025

In recent years, brands and companies are renewing their commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in response to changing societal demands. Although previous research has shown that brand-generated content on social media plays a significant role in marketing excellence, what constitutes the “right content” remains unknown, especially regarding the impact of DEI-related content on Twitter. Drawing on the congruence theory, this proje…

  • Pseudo-events

Open Access•Mengyao Xu, L Hu et al.•ARTICLE•Computers in Human Behavior•2023

Using automated content analysis, this research explores the phenomenon of pseudo-events coverage in The New York Times (N = 70,370 articles) from 1980 to 2019. By clarifying the operationalization of pseudo-events, this study introduces pseudo-events as a valuable tool to index how different social subsystems perpetuate mediatization (which is when institutions absorb and abide by media logic). Machine-learning classifiers were constructed to me…

  • A Two-Step Method for Classifying Political Partisanship Using Deep Learning Models

    Open Access•L Hu•ARTICLE•Social Science Computer Review•2023•Referências: 13

Political partisanship constitutes a pivotal group identity that significantly influences individuals’ voting behaviors and shapes their ideological and cultural perspectives. While traditional surveys and experimental studies can directly capture political identity by asking the participants, this task has become intricate when employing digital trace data sourced from social media. Previous classification methods, attempting to infer political …

Politics is an area that is traditionally believed to be gender divided. According to intergroup communication theory, this gender-salient context might cause differences in political communications between genders. Moreover, the internet and social media, which creates a computer-mediated interactive context, might also impact the traditional gender discrepancies in political discourse. This study used Twitter trace-data and computational text a…

  • Trajectory of Declines in Physical Activity in Community-Dwelling Older Women

Edward Mcauley, Katherine S Hall et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2009•Citada por: 1•Referências: 4

Studies examining physical activity behavior suggest that activity levels decline with age. Such declines are particularly problematic among older adults in light of the research suggesting a protective effect of physical activity on numerous physical health outcomes associated with independent living. Despite a growing recognition of the importance of a physically active lifestyle, little is known about the role of demographic and psychosocial v…

We examined the structure of the expanded version of the Exercise and Self-Esteem Model in a sample of older adults (N = 174; age, M = 66.7 years) across a 4-year period. A panel analysis revealed support for the indirect effects of physical activity (PA) and self-efficacy (SE) on physical self-worth and global esteem through subdomain levels of esteem. These relationships were consistent across the 4-year period. Over time, older adults reportin…
