  • “Theorizing Across Traditions”

Open Access•Martín Fuchs, Antje Linkenbach et al.•CHAPTER•"Weltbeziehung"•2023

Research questions, concepts and theories developed in the social sciences to analyze and understand the social conditions of the contemporary world still reveal a Eurocentric bias. Non-western ways of thinking and knowing are mostly (de-)valued as “local” or “historical” forms of knowledge, emphasizing their only partial and limited relevance. This article engages in decolonialization as normative and intellectual project and pleads for decenter…

This volume brings together key findings of the research project 'Religious Individualisation in Historical Perspective' at the Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies. • Introduction

    Open Access•Antje Linkenbach, Martin Mulsow•CHAPTER•Religious Individualisation•2019

2 Ott uses the term individuation in her text (2016, 19) to characterize participation under the auspices of boundedness, distinctiveness, autonomy and freedom. We replace individuation, which for the Kolleg-Forschergruppe indicates the ontogenetic process of a human being, with individualisation. Later and with reference to Ulrich Beck, Ott also talks about individualisation.

The empathic subject and the question of dividuality 2 German original: Empathie 'kann definiert werden als ein multidimensionaler Prozess des Erkennens, Verstehens und Nachempfindens der Gefhle anderer Personen und beinhaltet damit sowohl kognitive (Erkennen und Verstehen) als auch emotionale (Nachempfinden) Aspekte' (Schwenck et al. 2011, 265). 3 For the concept of dividualisation see the introduction to Part 2 of this publication and the concl…

  • Doom or Salvation? Utopian Beliefs in Contemporary Development Discourses and Environmentalism

    Antje Linkenbach•ARTICLE•Sites a journal of social…•2009•Citada por: 1

In the first part of this article I argue that utopian (as well as dystopian) ideas are vital for contemporary global discourses on development and for environmentalism. The utopian element of these discourses – which include mainstream and alternative ones - is deeply rooted in European philosophical, literary and socio-critical traditions, but in its ecotopian form also relates to non-western spiritual and moral thoughts. In the second part I c…

  • Anthropology of Modernity

    Open Access•Antje Linkenbach•ARTICLE•Thesis Eleven•2000•Citada por: 1•Referências: 4

The article takes up J. P. Arnason's basic theoretical assumption that the western trajectory to modernity marks only one possibility of the modern constellation and that modernity has to be pluralized. Arnason's differentiation between a civilizational paradigm and a civilizational horizon allows us to acknowledge the ambivalent perceptions of modernity prevalent in the colonial and postcolonial encounter and gives space for counter-paradigms of…
