  • Early Palisaded Villages in Southwestern Ontario

William A Fox, James Conolly et al.•ARTICLE•Midcontinental Journal of…•2023•Referências: 8

We review the initiation of palisade enclosed village communities in central southwestern Ontario, using data from a series of related early Late Woodland sites that we interpret as showing an east to west settlement sequence. New AMS dates based on samples of carbonized maize provide a revised chronology for the origin of village life, which began in the twelfth century. We show how villages developed alongside community pattern and ceramic attr…

  • A Summary of Radiocarbon Measurements of Fluvial and Colluvial Deposits in Catchments of South-Central Ontario, Canada

    Open Access•William C Mahaney, Andrew M Stewart•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2023

Fluvial and colluvial deposits of Late Holocene age in South-Central Ontario catchments have provided few 14 C dates, most by conventional methods registering century-old ages. Other young deposits, dated by conventional and accelerator mass spectrometry radiocarbon (AMS 14 C), have yielded bomb-affected post-1950 ages over variable time limits. Attempts to date the base of Ah and lower-in-section soil horizons, in Early to Late Holocene stream t…

  • Covering Bones

    Open Access•T Max Friesen, Andrew M Stewart et al.•ARTICLE•Études/Inuit/Studies•2019•Citada por: 3•Referências: 3

Complex relationships between people and animals define life in the northern past. For Inuit these relationships are manifested in many ways, particularly in practices that are often described as showing respect for animals, thus promoting stable relations between animal and human societies. Frustratingly, many of these activities, which are so prominent in the ethnographic record, have few archaeological correlates. Here, we examine one importan…

    Open Access•Andrew M Stewart, Joseph R Desloges•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2014

  • Targeting what matters in health promotion evaluation

Open Access•Rosemary McKenzie, Lucio Naccarella et al.•ARTICLE•Evaluation Journal of Australasia•2007

This article 1 examines the RE-AIM evaluation framework, first expounded by Glasgow, Vogt and Boles (1999) as an approach that can establish the public health impact of a health promotion program. The article presents the practical application of RE-AIM in evaluation of multi-project, multi-setting health promotion programs, illustrated by the evaluation of three statewide programs: a three-year older adult health promotion program, a three-year …

This study describes Australian media portrayal of mental illnesses, focusing on depression. A random sample of 1,123 items was selected for analysis from a pool of 13,389 nonfictional media items about mental illness collected between March 2000 and February 2001. Depression was portrayed more frequently than other mental illnesses. Items about depression, eating disorders, and substance use disorders most commonly described policies or programs…

For women having their first babies, gainful employment-at least during the first half of preg-nancy-is nowadays common in all levels of society in Great Britain (Martin, 1954). The largest series of first births to be studied in respect of work during pregnancy was taken from the sample of all babies born in England, Wales and Scotland between the
