  • Hormonal underpinnings of narcissism in women

Open Access•Jeremiasz Górniak, Marcin Zajenkowski et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2025•Referências: 20

  • General figure and face-specific closure ability

    Open Access•Dana L Walker, Romina Palermo et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2024

Little research has examined the association between general figure closure speed, a stratum I ability within the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) model of intelligence, and face-specific closure ability; an important consideration, as some research suggests face processing is independent of other abilities. Additionally, figure closure ability (general and face) may correlate negatively with trait-autism, due to theorised autism-related difficulties i…

  • Face recognition's practical relevance

Open Access•Laura M Engfors, Jeremy Wilmer et al.•ARTICLE•Cognition•2024

Research on individual differences in face recognition has provided important foundational insights: their broad range, cognitive specificity, strong heritability, and resilience to change. Elusive, however, has been the key issue of practical relevance: do these individual differences correlate with aspects of life that go beyond the recognition of faces, per se? Though often assumed, especially in social realms, such correlates remain largely t…

  • The Impact of Housing Tenure on Financial Wellbeing Among Elderly Australians

    Open Access•Gilles E Gignac, Adrian Gepp et al.•ARTICLE•Social Indicators Research•2024•Citada por: 1•Referências: 64

  • Induced narcissism increases self-assessed intelligence

Open Access•Marcin Zajenkowski, Constantine Sedikides et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2022•Referências: 21

We examine the causal direction of the relation between (grandiose agentic) narcissism and self-assessed intelligence (SAI). We manipulated narcissism with a validated procedure. In Studies 1–2, high (vs low) narcissism increased SAI. In Study 2, SAI mediated the effect of narcissism on academic goal-pursuit, expected academic achievement, and psychological wellbeing. The findings have implications for the nature of SAI and for gender differences…

  • Working memory capacity development through childhood

    Matthew R Reynolds, Christopher R Niileksela et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2022•Citada por: 6

Working memory is an often studied and important psychological construct. The growth of working memory capacity (WMC) in childhood is described as linear. Average adult WMC is estimated as either four or five "chunks." Using latent curve models of data from a measure of digit span backward that was administered longitudinally to a large sample representative of the native-English-speaking U.S. kindergarten population in 2011, we found that WMC gr…

  • Female Characters from Adult-Only Video Games Elicit a Sexually Objectifying Gaze in Both Men and Women

    Open Access•Ross C Hollett, Helen Morgan et al.•ARTICLE•Sex Roles•2019•Citada por: 2•Referências: 5

  • At what sample size do latent variable correlations stabilize

    Open Access•André Kretzschmar, Gilles E Gignac•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2019•Citada por: 4•Referências: 27

  • Exceptional intelligence and easygoingness may hurt your prospects

    Open Access•Gilles E Gignac, Clare L Starbuck•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2019•Referências: 62

Prospective mate characteristics such as kindness, intelligence, easygoingness, and physical attraction are ranked consistently highly by both men and women. However, rank measurement does not allow for determinations of what level of a mate characteristic is rated most desirable. Based on a more informative percentile scale measurement approach, it was reported recently that mean desirability ratings of IQ in a prospective partner peaked at the …

  • Stress has a direct and indirect effect on eating pathology in infertile women

    Open Access•Iolanda S Rodino, Gilles E Gignac et al.•ARTICLE•Reproductive Biomedicine &…•2018•Citada por: 2•Referências: 6

  • A moderate financial incentive can increase effort, but not intelligence test performance in adult volunteers

    Open Access•Gilles E Gignac•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2018•Referências: 48

A positive correlation between self-reported test-taking motivation and intelligence test performance has been reported. Additionally, some financial incentive experimental evidence suggests that intelligence test performance can be improved, based on the provision of financial incentives. However, only a small percentage of the experimental research has been conducted with adults. Furthermore, virtually none of the intelligence experimental rese…

  • Nasa Faked the Moon Landing—Therefore, (Climate) Science Is a Hoax

    Open Access•Lewandowsky, Klaus Oberauer et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Science•2013

Although nearly all domain experts agree that carbon dioxide emissions are altering the world's climate, segments of the public remain unconvinced by the scientific evidence. Internet blogs have become a platform for denial of climate change, and bloggers have taken a prominent role in questioning climate science. We report a survey of climate-blog visitors to identify the variables underlying acceptance and rejection of climate science. Our find…

  • Bifactor Modeling and the Estimation of Model-Based Reliability in the Wais-IV

    Gilles E Gignac, Marley W Watkins•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•2013

Previous confirmatory factor analytic research that has examined the factor structure of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) has endorsed either higher order models or oblique factor models that tend to amalgamate both general factor and index factor sources of systematic variance. An alternative model that has not yet been examined for the WAIS-IV is the bifactor model. Bifactor models allow all subtests to load onto b…

  • EI training and sales performance during a corporate merger

    Open Access•Gilles E Gignac, Richard J Harmer et al.•ARTICLE•Cross Cultural Management An…•2012

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine statistically the efficacy of an emotional intelligence (EI) training program on sales performance and emotional intelligence in a group of salespeople. Design/methodology/approach An experimental, repeated measures/between‐groups design was used (training group ( n =29) and a control group ( n =21)). The dependent variables were sales performance, self‐report EI and rater‐report EI. The data were a…

  • The pivotal role of perceived scientific consensus in acceptance of science

Open Access•Lewandowsky, Stephan Lewandowsky et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Climate Change•2012

  • A Confirmatory Examination of the Factor Structure of the Multidimensional Aptitude Battery

    Open Access•Gilles E Gignac•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2006

Although some research has examined the factorial nature of the Multidimensional Aptitude Battery (MAB), none has tested hypotheses relevant to both oblique and orthogonal models via confirmatory factor analysis. Thus, in this investigation, a series of models was tested, which compared the model fit of both oblique/higher order models against a completely orthogonal first-order factor model (i.e., nested factor model). Based on a sample of 3,121…
