Democratic Participation in Small-Town Schools
To study democratic participation in small-town schools, over 5 months the authors interviewed and observed local educators, policymakers, and students from 25 districts in 21 states. The article presents data on citizen involvement, administrator-teacher collaboration, teacher collegiality, student voice, and cooperative learning. We describe some training designs, exercises, and procedures that have been used in laboratory training for organizational development in schools. We have selected and developed these methods over some years to serve as components in a training strategy that focusses on teaching, legitimizing, and making normative a specific procedure for group problem-solving. Theory to Guide Organizational Training in Schools
We do not believe that the T-group is a vital tool for refurbishing organizational life. We present theoretical reasons for believing that organizational training to improve organizational functioning must help participants to function more effectively as components of working bodies carrying out specific tasks in a particular job-setting.
