  • Longitudinal associations between five factor model and impulsive personality traits and PTSD symptoms

  • Accelerated DNA Methylation Age

    Erika J Wolf, Mark W Logue et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2018

OBJECTIVE: Recently developed indices of cellular age based on DNA methylation (DNAm) data, referred to as DNAm age, are being used to study factors that influence the rate of aging and the health correlates of these metrics of the epigenetic clock. This study evaluated associations between trauma exposure, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, and accelerated versus decelerated DNAm age among military veterans. We also examined whether …

  • Group-delivered cognitive/exposure therapy for PTSD in women veterans

Open Access•Diane Castillo, Diane T Castillo et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2016

This study supports the use of group format for PTSD with 3 modules using improved methodology, with a novel, 3-member group which allows repeated in-session weekly imaginal exposures. The results suggest future examination of group delivered PE. (PsycINFO Database Record

  • Veterans’ PTSD symptoms and their partners’ desired changes in key relationship domains

    Open Access•Adam D LaMotte, Casey T Taft et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2015

There is a growing literature investigating the connection between veterans' posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and intimate relationship problems. Little to no work, however, has examined the connection between veterans' PTSD symptoms and their partners' perceptions of specific relationship areas in need of change. We examined associations between overall PTSD symptoms and symptom cluster scores with partners' desired changes in the a…

  • National Estimates of Exposure to Traumatic Events and PTSD Prevalence Using DSM-IV and DSM-5 Criteria

    Open Access•Dean G Kilpatrick, Heidi S Resnick et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Traumatic Stress•2013

Prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) defined according to the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual fifth edition (DSM-5; 2013) and fourth edition (DSM-IV; 1994) was compared in a national sample of U.S. adults (N = 2,953) recruited from an online panel. Exposure to traumatic events, PTSD symptoms, and functional impairment were assessed online using a highly structured, self-administered survey. Traum…

  • Sample Size Requirements for Structural Equation Models

Open Access•Erika J Wolf, Kelly Harrington et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2013

Determining sample size requirements for structural equation modeling (SEM) is a challenge often faced by investigators, peer reviewers, and grant writers. Recent years have seen a large increase in SEMs in the behavioral science literature, but consideration of sample size requirements for applied SEMs often relies on outdated rules-of-thumb. This study used Monte Carlo data simulation techniques to evaluate sample size requirements for common a…

  • Intimate partner and general aggression perpetration among combat veterans presenting to a posttraumatic stress disorder clinic

    Casey T Taft, Robin P Weatherill et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•2009•Referências: 37

This study examined rates and correlates of intimate partner and general aggression perpetration among 236 male combat veterans seeking services in a Veteran's Affairs posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) clinic. Approximately 33% of those in an intimate relationship reported perpetrating partner physical aggression in the previous year, and 91% reported partner psychological aggression. Comparable rates were found for general aggression perpetra…

  • Military-Related Ptsd, Current Disability Policies, and Malingering

  • Two histories of environmental change and human disturbance in eastern lowland Amazonia

    Open Access•Mark B Bush, Mark W Miller et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2000•Citada por: 47•Referências: 5

Two long palaeoecological records (pollen, diatoms, 14 C, chemistry and charcoal) provide a detailed record of Holocene environmental conditions in the lowlands of the lower Amazon. Changes in the composition of the terra firme forest are evident but a forest cover is maintained throughout. Fluctuations in lake level and changes in seasonality are tracked in both sedimentary sequences. Rising early-Holocene sea levels and the consequent rise of l…

  • Gender Differences in Complicated Grief among the Elderly

Open Access•Andrew J Bierhals, Holly G Prigerson et al.•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•1996

The resolution of grief has been frequently posited to progress through stages. Seventy-one widows and twenty-six widowers bereaved from five months to thirty-seven years were studied to determine if their resolution of grief-related symptoms could be mapped onto a stage theory of grief and to examine if men and women follow the same temporal course. An analysis of variance was used to test for differences in complicated grief symptoms over time …

  • Route Selection to Minimize Helicopter Disturbance of Molting Pacific Black Brant

    Open Access•Mark W Miller•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1994

I used a previously described simulation model to assess the effects of helicopter activity on approximately 18 000 molting Pacific black brant (Branta bernicla nigricans) near Teshekpuk Lake, Alaska. Bell 206 and Bell 412 helicopters were simulated flying across the molting grounds along six flight lines at various altitudes and frequencies between two airfields. The model determined the behavioral and energetic responses of every bird encounter…

  • Neurochemical Changes in Brains of Albino Rats Resulting from Avoidance Learning

    Open Access•Morton H Kleban, Martin Gold et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1971

To observe the effects of avoidance training on the brain chemistry of trained rats, 36 Wistar albino rats, 60—75 days old, were run in an automated straight-runway maze. 12 Ss received limited avoidance training followed immediately by extinction training for the avoidance response. 12 other Ss received limited avoidance training only, and 12 is acted as non-trained controls. Following training, each S's brain was removed and sectioned into thre…
