  • Adapting and Thriving

Open Access•Limor Dina Gonen, Tchai Tavor et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2024

Global warming (GW) refers to the gradual increase in Earth’s average surface temperature caused by human activities. This phenomenon has far-reaching consequences that affect the environment, society, and economy and has created a multitude of challenges for the wine industry, affecting grape cultivation, wine production, aging, and quality management. To analyze the negative impact of GW on the wine industry and to examine the equilibrium that …

  • Optimal Pricing and Capacity Under Well-Defined and Well-Known Deterministic Demand Fluctuations

Open Access•Tchai Tavor, Limor Dina Gonen et al.•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2019•Referências: 1

Fluctuations in demand require diverse considerations with respect to planned capacity. At peak periods, decreased capacity may result in supply shortages and thus in lower revenues and unachievable profits. In contrast, smaller capacity at off-peak periods reduces the substantial costs of large and unutilized capacity. The questions to be addressed ask (i) what the optimal pricing policies are at peak and off-peak periods; (ii) what the optimal …

  • The Modified Baumol Equation

Open Access•Tchai Tavor, Limor Dina Gonen et al.•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2018•Referências: 3

Baumol developed an equation of demand for money for the transaction motive. It is affected positively by cost per withdrawal and negatively by the interest loss resulting from holding cash. The present paper suggests modifying the basic and simplified Baumol approach by adding another element to the transaction equation. Availability of cash encourages spontaneous purchases resulting in customer losses. Through cost minimization with respect to …

  • Refrigeration and the Reduction of the Takeoff Rate of Bushmeat

    Open Access•Andrew J Buck, Tchai Tavor et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2017

Rising incomes in the developing world has led to increased consumption of bushmeat as a luxury good with a mounting risk of species extirpation. In a two-period model with stochastic supply, this article shows that the simple expedient of introducing refrigeration to the bushmeat markets can lead to the reduction of harvest rates. In the absence of refrigeration, all bushmeat brought to the market must be sold immediately, putting downward press…

  • Price Control Effectiveness in the Context of a Supply Chain

Open Access•Tchai Tavor, Uriel Spiegel et al.•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2017•Referências: 1

The imposition of price controls on a well-functioning competitive market is usually considered harmful to society since it reduces the volume of trade and creates incentives to waste resources. Generally, regulation and control of non-competitive markets in a supply chain environment are very difficult tasks, since the source that maintains and accelerates monopoly induced price increases is unclear. This present paper deals with the case of an e…

  • Holding Cash and Spontaneous Behavior

Open Access•Limor Dina Gonen, Michal Weber et al.•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2017

During the decades following the presentation of the original Baumol equation (1952) the role of holding cash was significantly changed. The original Baumol equation considered the two elements of (i) the value of transactions, positively affecting cash holding; and (ii) the interest rate, negatively affecting cash holding. A third element that was not considered is the economic behavioral aspect of the availability of money that may lead to spon…

  • A Modified Baumol Approach-Optimal Withdrawal and Holding of Cash Liquid Assets

Open Access•Limor Dina Gonen, Michal Weber et al.•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2016•Citada por: 1•Referências: 5

Baumol developed an equation for the transaction demand for money. It is affected positively by cost per withdrawal and transaction value, and negatively by the interest loss from holding cash. Our objective is to modify the Baumol equation by including another factor. The demand for money is also affected by the customer concern that holding a more available liquid asset encourages more spontaneous purchases with resulting losses in their real v…

  • Negative Intergroup Externalities and Market Demand

    Eliakim Katz, Uriel Spiegel•ARTICLE•Economica•1996

In this paper, the authors suggest and analyze an aggregate demand curve with a positively sloped section that derives from negative consumption externalities between groups. Their analysis suggests a new interpretation of the demand pattern for some Veblen-type goods. Copyright 1996 by The London School of Economics and Political Science

  • A Von Thünen Model of Crime, Casinos and Property Values in New Jersey

    Open Access•Andrew J Buck, Joseph Deutsch et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•1991•Citada por: 5•Referências: 10

Urban economic models suggest that, ceteris paribus, land values diminish with distance from a central business district (CBD) which 'produces' employment, income and other amenities. A new industry like casino gaming may have jobs and increased income associated with it. These amenities will induce an increase in property values. The size of that increase diminishes with distance from the city centre. The new industry may have the negative by-pr…

  • The Effects of Criminal Experience on the Incidence of Crime

Open Access•Joseph Deutsch, Simon Hakim et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Economics and…•1990•Citada por: 7•Referências: 8

A hypothesis has been analyzed that criminals learn by doing, that with experience criminals increase their activity so that with level outlays on police the incidence of crime may be increasing. This hypothesis is tested by statistical analysis of time series cross sectional data on crime levels, police outlays and various socioeconomic variables. The results confirm that "learning by doing"-accumulating criminal experience-increases criminal ac…

  • The Difference Between Short and Long Run Effects of Police Outlays on Crime

Open Access•Joseph Friedman, Joseph H Friedman et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Economics and…•1989•Citada por: 5•Referências: 13

In the long run a positive relationship of police expenditurescrime is derived in models which explain criminal behavior In the short run, however, the statistical results point to the possible deterring effect of police expenditures. A theoretical model is constructed to explain the statistical difference of the short and long run effect of police outlays on crime. As police expenditures increase, crime level diminishes. As time elapses, crimina…
