  • Workers in Food Distribution

    Kate Mulholland, Paul Stewart•ARTICLE•New Political Economy•2013•Citada por: 4•Referências: 4

This paper examines warehouse workers' experiences of the labour process and employment relations in an ambient food distribution depot governed by a labour management system described as lean logistics. Lean logistics is seen by the sector as an aid to, and necessary development of, the globalisation of the sector's supply chain (global commodity chain). • Workplace resistance in an Irish call centre

    Open Access•Kate Mulholland•ARTICLE•Work Employment and Society•2004•Citada por: 52•Referências: 19

This article examines workplace conflict in an Irish call centre. It criticizes managerial and post-structural accounts of resistance for failing to see that workplace conflict continues to be located in structural issues, such as the employment relationship, making pay, productivity and work intensification the source of conflict. In adopting Martinez Lucio and Stewart's (1997) notion of the collective worker, the article will show that in subor…

  • Throwing the baby out with the bath-water

    Open Access•Kate Mulholland•ARTICLE•Capital & Class•2002•Referências: 16

In developing this argument the paper traces the company staffing policy back to privatisation suggesting that reductions in the training and recruitment of key staff, particularly engineering/managerial and technical staff, …

The focus of this article is the character of the entrepreneurial, managerial and preservation strategies characterising successful family businesses. It includes majority white and minority ethnic business in a variety of enterprises across the different sectors and argues that the notion of a shared business culture embedded in a shared class background best describes their approach to enterprise. This particular business culture which embodies…

  • Gender Power and Property Relations Within Entrepreneurial Wealthy Families

    Open Access•Kate Mulholland•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•1996•Citada por: 4•Referências: 7

This article challenges the popular image of middle and upper class women as beneficiaries and consumers of wealth and correspondingly of men as the central agents in the creation of wealth. Rather this paper demonstrates that women are active in the generation of wealth, but are not given the recognition they deserve, and are increasingly marginalized in the management and ownership of wealth. In seeking to explain this, wealth formation will be…
