  • The curvilinear relationship between stress and mental health

Yidi Chen, Jinjin Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2026

Megan Edwards, Jordan A Booker et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2025

Six studies (combined N = 2,312) examined the emotion of hope as a unique and robust predictor of meaning in life. In cross-sectional data (Studies 1-2), affective hope predicted greater meaning, controlling for other positive affect, and agency/pathways, in the majority of White U.S. samples. Utilizing a daily diary (Study 3), daily hope predicted daily meaning independent of positive emotions, in a Chinese sample. A five-wave longitudinal desig…

  • Exploring the interplay between stress-is-enhancing mindsets, emotional growth mindsets, and mental health

Jun Hu, Huiqing Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2025

However, few studies have explored the reciprocal relationships between adaptive mindsets and mental health. This study assessed the role of trait-level stress-is-enhancing mindsets in the dynamic interplay between emotional growth mindsets and mental health in real-life contexts. Using eco…

Open Access•Jinjin Ma, Yidi Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Pacific Rim Psychology•2025

The change patterns of well-being when under stress are contentious issues. The hedonic adaptation theory and sustainable happiness theory suggest divergent patterns, potentially tied to the distinction between hedonic and eudemonic well-being. This study aimed to explore how daily stress and lifetime stress influence short-term change patterns in hedonic and eudemonic well-being. The study involved 241 participants in a 14-day daily diary study.…
