  • A Confession to the People

    Hsiao-Tung Fei, Fei Hsiao-T'Ung•ARTICLE•Chinese Sociology & Anthropology•1979

The following address was made to the National People's Congress on July 13, 1957. It is remarkable for the scope, number, and detail of "crimes" admitted, and for the stilted prose, so unlike Fei's usual style

  • The Growth of Chinese Sociology

    Hsiao-Tung Fei, Fei Hsiao-T'Ung•ARTICLE•Chinese Sociology & Anthropology•1979

This article was written after Fei Hsiao-t'ung returned from a three months' stay in England as the guest of the British Council. While there he was renewed in his admiration for the parliamentary system, the Labour government, and their ability to effect important yet peaceful change (see Fei 1947, Arkush 1976). He returned to a China increasingly polarized by the civil war, a war which made much academic social science seem pointless

  • A Revisit to Kaihsienkung

    Hsiao-Tung Fei, Fei Hsiao-T'Ung•ARTICLE•Chinese Sociology & Anthropology•1979

"A Revisit to Kaihsienkung" was originally intended to appear in three installments. Only two were ever published, however; appearance of the third was prevented by the antirightist movement which brought the "Hundred Flowers" period of liberalization to an end

    Hsiao-Tung Fei•ARTICLE•American Journal of Sociology•1946•Citada por: 19

Peasantry and gentry form relatively rigid social classes in Chinese society. The peasants farm the gentry's land and their rents support the gentry in leisure. The function of the gentry is local administration. Since the rigors of government may always be mitigated by friendship, every peasant family hopes to educate a son into the gentry and official life and thus secure for itself a friend at court. The gentry, being educated, are the logical…
