The Big Lottery Fund's Children's Play Programme provided an ideal opportunity to gather evidence of the benefits of funding children's play provision. This paper proposes that without a systematic evaluation of the programme at a national level, an opportunity to evaluate consistently, the impact of the funding on outcomes for children's play was missed
Secular Variation of Δ 14 C During the Medieval Solar Maximum
The Earth is within the Contemporaneous Solar Maximum (CSM), analogous to the Medieval Solar Maximum (MSM). If this analogy is valid, solar activity will continue to increase well into the 21st century. We have completed 75 single-ring and 10 double-ring measurements from ad 1065 to ad 1150 to obtain information about solar activity during this postulated analog to solar activity during the MSM. δ 14 C decreases steadily during the period ad 1065…

Experiments were started in 1984 at the Geological Survey of Finland (GSF) with a new 14C dating system that consists of a passive shield of 90-year-old iron, a liquid-scintillation anticoincidence guard and three CO2 proportional counters of conventional size. Dendrochronologic Calibration of the Radiocarbon Time Scale
Extensive radiocarbon analyses have been made of dendrochronologically dated wood. The resultant radiocarbon data are not in total agreement with the conventional solar calendar as exemplified by the tree-ring chronology. The discrepancy reaches a maximum between 4060 B.C. to 7350 B.C. when radiocarbon dates are too young by 800 to 870 yr. Using a compatible set of 549 dated samples as a working base, a calibration table has been derived for conv…
