    Open Access•Timi Lynne Barone, Samantha K Ammon et al.•ARTICLE•Teaching Anthropology•2021•Referências: 7

In-depth interviews represent one of the most commons forms of qualitative data used in social science research, especially in ethnography. Yet preparing students to conduct good in-depth interviews is an area of relative neglect in social science literature, despite the potential marketability of this skill for anthropology and sociology students. Practice in communities may be impractical and/or problematic because of wariness due to historical…

    Samantha K Ammon, Eric Dahlin et al.•ARTICLE•Community Work & Family•2017•Citada por: 8•Referências: 61

Are there racial/ethnic differences in work–family conflict? Using a nationally representative survey of Americans, we analyze differences in work–family conflict among Blacks, Whites, and Hispanics and then utilize an intersectional approach, disaggregating men and women within each racial/ethnic group. Using structural equation modeling, we find that the usual predictors of conflict – family and work characteristics – have varied effects on wor…

    Open Access•Phyllis Moen, J Lam et al.•ARTICLE•Work and Occupations•2013•Citada por: 76•Referências: 52

We detected four time-work …

The 'New Economy' features 24/7 employment, varied work schedules, job insecurity, and lower benefits and wages, which lead to disparities in experiences of security and sufficiency. This study investigates sufficiency concerns in the New Economy; who is having trouble making ends meet? Sufficiency concerns are subjective perceptions that work is insufficient to meet basic needs and that family and work cannot be coordinated in a stable way. This…

  • Gendered Challenge, Gendered Response

    Open Access•Erin L Kelly, Samantha K Ammon et al.•ARTICLE•Gender & Society•2010•Citada por: 66•Referências: 31

This article integrates research on gendered organizations and the work-family interface to investigate an innovative workplace initiative, the Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE), implemented in the corporate headquarters of Best Buy, Inc. While flexible work policies common in other organizations “accommodate” individuals, this initiative attempts a broader and deeper critique of the organizational culture. We address two research questions: H…

Open Access•Samantha K Ammon, Samantha K Ammons et al.•ARTICLE•New Directions for Child and…•2008

The challenges of juggling work and family responsibilities are well known, but there has been little attention to the distinctive work and family experiences of young adults. This chapter explores how class affects young adults' exposure to work-family conflicts and the strategies they use to manage their work and family responsibilities. Using data from a recent cohort of young adults, we find class and gender variations in work and family role…

  • Religious Influences on Work-Family Trade-Offs

    Open Access•Samantha K Ammon, Samantha K Ammons et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Issues•2007•Citada por: 37•Referências: 51

Despite a large body of research on the influences of religion on family life and gender ideology, few studies examined how religion affects work-family strategies. One set of strategies involves making employment or family trade-offs-strategies of devoting time or attention to either work or family in a situation in which one cannot devote the preferred amount of time and attention to both, strategies that may be experienced as making sacrifices…
