This paper explores the value of path dependency as a tool to explain why the social identity of particular neighbourhoods can remain relatively fixed over time. Three neighbourhoods in a small Scottish city are examined using historical documentary and sociological qualitative research methods, over an 80‐year period. A Forgotten Persian Poet of the Thirteenth Century
I recently purchased a Persian manuscript, dated a.h. 981 (= a.d. 1573), containing the Dīvān of a poet named Ḍiyā-yi Fārsī. The manuscript, which is in good condition, contains 149 folios, each of fifteen lines, amounting in all to about 4,400 couplets: my knowledge of its contents is due to the kindness of Professor R,. Levy and Professor V. Minorsky, who have both examined its text

The date of Jāmī's Silsilat al-dhahab
Since the publication of my article ( JRAS ., 1945, pp. 165 ff.) Dr. A. A. Hekmat has kindly sent me a copy of his book Jāmī , published at Teheran in 1941 (A.H. 1320). In view of Ṣāfīs evidence, he there (pp. 185 f.) dates the first daftar of the Silsilat al-dhahab between A.H. 873 (accession of Sulṭān Huṣayn) and A.H. 877 (Jāmi's pilgrimage).
