Open Access•Unni Karin Moksnes, Geir Arild Espnes•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

This study investigated the associations between sex, age, socio-economic status, stress, sense of coherence (SOC), and health (mental wellbeing, depressive symptoms, self-rated health, and subjective health complaints) in Norwegian adolescents aged 13-19 years. Furthermore, the study investigated the potential protective or compensatory role from SOC on the association between stress and health. Methods: The study was based on a cross-sectional …

  • Reorienting Norwegian mental healthcare services

Open Access•Nina Helen Mjøsund, Monica Eriksson et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2019

Reorientation of healthcare services towards more efficient health promotion interventions is an urgent matter. Despite policies and guidelines being in place, it is the least developed key action area of the Ottawa charter. User involvement, or the voice of the patient, is missing from the knowledge base of health promotion in the mental healthcare services. The aim of this study was to add experiential knowledge from former patients. We explore…

Open Access•Ruth Bell, Matluba Khan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

The world's challenges of climate change, damage to ecosystems, and social and health inequalities require changes in human behaviours at every level of organisation, among governments, business, communities, and individuals. An important question is how behaviour change can be enabled and supported at the scale and speed required. The research reported in this paper describes important lessons for good practice in changing contexts to modify beh…

  • Addressing Inequity

Open Access•Kirsti Sarheim Anthun, Ruca Maass et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Green space areas offer several benefits that support our physical, psychological, and social health. However, the level of engagement with green space areas may not be the same across population groups. Using a mixed-method research design, we investigated the use of a green space area and whether and how the area was beneficial for health, social inclusion, and physical activity for all socioeconomic groups in a suburban area in Norway. The stu…

  • The Inherit Model

Open Access•Nina van der Vliet, Brigit Staatsen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

The need for analysis and action across the interrelated domains of human behaviors and lifestyles, environmental sustainability, health and inequality is increasingly apparent. Currently, these areas are often not considered in conjunction when developing policies or interventions, introducing the potential for suboptimal or conflicting outcomes. The INHERIT model has been developed within the EU-funded project INHERIT as a tool to guide thinkin…

  • Is there an association between food patterns and life satisfaction among Norway's inhabitants ages 65 years and older

Open Access•Beate André, Helena Canhão et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2017•Citada por: 2•Referências: 37

The lack of information regarding older adults' health and lifestyles makes it difficult to design suitable interventions for people at risk of developing unhealth lifestyles. Therefore, there is a need to increase knowledge about older adults' food patterns and quality of life. Our aim was to determine associations among food patterns, anxiety, depression, and life satisfaction in Norwegian inhabitants ages 65+. The Nord-Trøndelag Health Study (…

  • Religiousness and Social Support

Open Access•Marianne Nilsen Kvande, Randi Johansen Reidunsdatter et al.•ARTICLE•Review of Religious Research•2015•Citada por: 2•Referências: 50

Previous research has shown that religiousness is related to social support, but most studies on this subject have been conducted in highly religious contexts. In the secular culture of Norway, we investigated the level of perceived social support among religious and non-religious individuals using the scale from the Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey. Of the 3,000 randomly selected persons aged 18-75 years, 653 (22 %) participated in t…

Marianne Nilsen Kvande, Marianne Nilsen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for the…•2014•Citada por: 1•Referências: 4

In the secular context of Norway, we investigated the mediating roles of both optimism and pessimism in the relationship between six dimensions of religious coping as measured by the Religious Coping Activities Scale (RCOPE) and existential well-being (EWB). The moderating effect of long-standing health problems on these relationships was also examined. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2009 among Norwegians 18 to 75 years of age. Resul…

  • Trends in absolute and relative educational inequalities in four modifiable ischaemic heart disease risk factors

Open Access•Linda Ernstsen, Bjorn H Strand et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Widening absolute educational inequalities in smoking and diabetes over the last three decades gives rise to concern. The mechanisms behind these results are less clear, and future studies are needed to assess if educational inequalities in secondary prevention of IHD are larger compared to educational inequalities in primary prevention of IHD. Continued monitoring of IHD risk factors at the population level is therefore warranted. The results em…

    Marion Kloep, Leo B Hendry et al.•ARTICLE•Children s Geographies•2003•Citada por: 16

This study sets out to investigate anticipatory views concerning out-migration amongst rural youth. Utilising three age-group samples from rural Norway, Scotland and Sweden, young people were classified as prospective 'stayers', 'leavers' or 'returners'. Both qualitative and quantitative data show that 'stayers' see themselves as most contented with rurality. 'Leavers' are most negative to rural living. 'Returners', though also critical about rur…

  • Leisure transitions - a rural perspective
