Das manifestações de 2013 à eleição de 2018 no Brasil
O texto discute explicações a respeito da atual crise política brasileira. A noção de que a crise não é institucional considera regras específicas e se baseia em uma particular definição de instituição. Isso gera uma explicação contextual ou ad hoc. Argumentamos que uma interpretação institucional da crise depende de duas modificações: a possibilidade de mudança institucional e a interação entre um conjunto maior de instituições políticas
The Presidential Logic of Government Formation in Latin American Democracies
Is there a relationship between a party's capacity to influence legislative decision-making and its decision to be part of a government coalition? In this study, we argue that when formal legislative rules are more conducive to actorsâ policy preferences, parties have fewer incentives to join the cabinet. Unboxing the Active Role of the Legislative Power in Brazil
The main purpose of this article is to show the relevance of the legislative branch participation in formatting bills originating in the executive. It shows that a strong executive is not necessarily accompanied by a weak legislature. By analyzing the changes the legislative made to executive bills through substitute bills and amendments to the legislation, the study shows that the legislative branch actively participates in drafting policies. Previous work on gift-giving has shown the economic and social importance of this activity, ways in which it may reflect social relations, and characteristics of good and bad gift exchanges.
