Introducing the Amar (All Minorities at Risk) Data
The article introduces the All Minorities at Risk (AMAR) data, a sample of socially recognized and salient ethnic groups. Fully coded for the forty core Minorities at Risk variables, this AMAR sample provides researchers with data for empirical analysis free from the selection issues known in the study of ethnic politics to date. Temporal Issues in Replication
The results of archival studies may depend on when researchers analyze data for at least two reasons: (1) databases change over time and (2) the sampling frame, in terms of the period covered, may reflect different environmental conditions. We examined these issues through the replication of Hochberg, Ljungqvist, and Lu’s (2007) research on the centrality of venture capital firms and their performance. Ethnic inclusion and economic growth
Is ethnic social diversity relevant to cross-national variation in economic development, or is the inclusion or exclusion of said groups in political decision-making the more salient factor? We argue that deleterious policy effects resulting in diminished economic growth are caused by exclusion of mobilized ethnic groups from the policy process and not just ethnic social diversity per se. Brokerage, Boundary Spanning, and Leadership in Open Innovation Communities
What types of human and social capital identify the emergence of leaders of open innovation communities? Consistent with the norms of an engineering culture, we find that future leaders must first make strong technical contributions. Beyond technical contributions, they must then integrate their communities in order to mobilize volunteers and avoid the ever-present danger of forking and balkanization. Support for term limits and voting behavior in congressional elections
This research analyzes how public opinion on term limits is linked to voting in Congressional elections. Using data from the 1992 American National Election Survey, probit analysis of vote for House and Senate incumbents suggests that opinion on term limits has only a week effect in races in which the incumbent is a Republican. In these races, individuals favoring term limits were less likely to vote for the Republican incumbent. In all types of …
