This article considers how Alasdair MacIntyre’s Revolutionary Aristotelianism, given its foundations in Aristotle’s virtue ethics and Marxism, can strengthen critical social work (CSW) education, particularly in contesting the influence of liberalism. This article considers how students, reflecting on a pedagogy combining academic literacies and critical analysis, emphasised the importance of the learning community it promoted. The pedagogy drew on insights from the work of Theodor Adorno. Through qualitative research, the students confirmed their experience of a vibrant, productive learning community. We developed a pedagogy addressing both academic literacies and critical analysis where students would, with limited facilitation, actively engage with texts and each other. In this article we reflect on what the students who engaged with the pedagogy taught us: that teachers need to be much more than facilitators—we need to ‘meddle in the middle’. The Ballcourt Markers of Tenam Rosario, Chiapas, Mexico
This study is an iconographic analysis of ballcourt markers from the Late/Terminal Classic Maya site of Tenam Rosario, Chiapas, Mexico. The squatting posture of the two figures depicted on these markers, while rare in Lowland Maya art, is compared to Late Postclassic images of the earth deities Tlaltecuhtli and Tlaloc from Central Mexico. This study of public attitudes toward physicians' assistants and nurse practitioners finds that the public regards the two groups of health workers as remarkably similar. A telephone survey of 2,583 households in the Baltimore, Maryland, metropolitan area indicates that about half the population have heard of a PA or NP, though only 4 per cent report receiving care from such workers.
