  • Norway Spruce dynamics in NE Poland at the Middle-Late-Holocene transition

    Open Access•Magdalena Fiłoc, Mirosława Kupryjanowicz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2025•Referências: 31

Norway spruce is one of Europe’s most significant trees, with a millennia-long role crucial for maintaining values of forests. Yet its migration, especially at its current range limits, is not fully understood. The paper presents the results of palynological research on the temporal spread of spruce in NE Poland between ca. 5500–2300 cal BP. The significance of our study lies in the fact that we used pollen records to reconstruct the vegetation u…

Long-term paleofire perspectives provide key information on natural and human-derived land cover changes. The last few millennia are crucial to understanding the future of wildfire threats, since the increasing global temperatures are expected to have an impact on regions previously assumed to not be endangered. In this study we investigate the interplay between changing climatic conditions, land cover transformation, fires, and human activity ba…

  • Eemian and early Weichselian environmental changes at the Jałówka site, NE Poland, and their correlation with marine and ice records

Open Access•Mirosława Kupryjanowicz, Magdalena Fiłoc et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2021

Vegetation changes were documented across the last interglacial period (MIS 5e, Eemian) and continuing through the older part of the last glacial period (MIS 5d–a, early Weichselian). This study was based on pollen data collected at the Jałówka site, NE Poland. Two cold oscillations appeared within warm periods during this stage of the upper Pleistocene. The older oscillation was the temporary intra–interglacial cooling at the end of the Eemian. …

  • Environmental changes related to the 8.2-ka event and other climate fluctuations during the middle Holocene

    Open Access•Magdalena Fiłoc, Mirosława Kupryjanowicz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2017•Referências: 19

Multi-proxy palaeoecological data (pollen, diatom, Cladocera) about the environment during the middle-Holocene from Suchar II and Suchar Wielki, dystrophic lakes, in NE Poland are presented. Fluctuations in the pollen concentration, indicative of changes in pollen productivity and shifts in woodland composition, document the considerable instability of the climate in NE Poland between 9200 and 5750 cal. yr BP. The recognised colder events were da…

  • Was it ‘ terra desolata ’? Conquering and colonizing the medieval Prussian wilderness in the context of climate change

    Open Access•Marta Szal, Mirosława Kupryjanowicz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Citada por: 1•Referências: 17

Pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, charcoal and geochemical analyses of sediments from Lakes Salęt and Ruskowiejskie (NE Poland) were used to reconstruct vegetation changes in the former Galindia territory (Old Prussia) related to human activity and the climatic instability of the medieval period. Among archaeologists and historians, there is a widespread opinion that the permanent transformations of the environment in Prussia (south-eastern Baltic…

  • Anthropogenic Transformation of the Vegetation in the Immediate Vicinity of the Settlement Complex at Poganowo (Mrągowo Lakeland, Ne Poland)

Open Access•Marta Szal, Mirosława Kupryjanowicz et al.•ARTICLE•Studia Quaternaria•2015

The results of pollen, non-pollen palynomorph and microcharcoal particle analyses of deposits from a small pond in north eastern Poland are presented. The study focused on human-induced vegetation changes that occurred in a close vicinity of the settlement complex at Poganowo during the Middle Ages (ca 10 th -16 th centuries). We distinguished three phases of human impact. First and third phases correspond to intensified settlement activity. The …

  • Postglacial shifts in lake trophic status based on a multiproxy study of a humic lake

    Open Access•Danuta Drzymulska, Magdalena Fiłoc et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Citada por: 1•Referências: 5

The long-term development of a humic lake ecosystem in Poland was investigated via palaeoecological analyses of age-dated sediment cores. Peat and lacustrine deposit records spanning approximately 12,000 years of lake history were analysed with regard to palynomorphs, plant macrofossils, degree of peat decomposition, Cladocera and geochemistry. Our study demonstrated the difficulty of classifying sediments deposited in humic lakes. We considered …

Pollen analysis of sediments from three lakes and analysis of plant macroremains including charcoal from archaeological sites in the Mazurian Lake District provide new data for the reconstruction of vegetation changes related to human activity between the 1st and 13th century AD. Pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, charcoal and geochemical analyses of sediments from Lake Salęt (NE Poland) were used to reconstruct vegetation changes related to the activity of the West Balt tribes during the Iron Age, in the period between the second half of the 7th century bc and the beginning of the 10th century ad. We distinguished five phases of human impact on environment. Woodland clearing around the studied lake started at the end of th…
