  • Dramatic reduction in size of the lowland Macquarie River in response to Late Quaternary climate-driven hydrologic change

    Open Access•Paul P Hesse, Paul Hesse et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2018

Palaeochannels of lowland rivers provide a means of investigating the sensitivity of river response to climate-driven hydrologic change. About 80 palaeochannels of the lower Macquarie River of southeastern Australia record the evolution of this distributive fluvial system. Six Macquarie palaeochannels were dated by single-grain optically stimulated luminescence. The largest of the palaeochannels (Quombothoo, median age 54 ka) was on average 284 m…

  • A nested hierarchical perspective to enhance interpretations and communication in fluvial geomorphology for use in water resources management

    Open Access•Kirstie A Fryirs, Timothy J Ralph et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•2018•Referências: 50

A key skill that geomorphologists possess is the ability to use multi-scale perspectives in their interpretations of landscapes. One way to gain these perspectives is with the use of nested hierarchical frameworks. In fluvial geomorphology, such frameworks help with assessment of large-scale controls (e.g., tectonic activity, climate change) on the pattern and dynamics of smaller-scale physical features (e.g., channels, floodplains, bars), and co…

  • The Inqua Dunes Atlas chronologic database

Open Access•Nicholas Lancaster, Stephen Wolfe et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2016

The INQUA Dunes Atlas project has developed a global digital database of chronological information for periods of inland or continental sand dune accumulation and stabilization. The database comprises information on the site location (including coordinates), dune type, and stratigraphic context, pertinent analytical information (e.g. luminescence procedures), and literature citations to the original data source. This paper discusses the backgroun…

  • Understanding architecture and age structure of longitudinal dunes

    Open Access•Paul Hesse•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • Late Quaternary palaeochannels indicate a threshold response to hydrological change on an alluvial plain of the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia

    Open Access•Paul Hesse•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

    Open Access•Paul Hesse, Jonathan Gray•ARTICLE•Geographical Research•2008

  • Tsunami and palaeotsunami depositional signatures and their potential value in understanding the late-Holocene tsunami record

    Open Access•Dale Dominey-Howes, Dale T M Dominey-Howes et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2006•Citada por: 4•Referências: 5

In recent years, much research on modern and palaeotsunami deposits has been published. From these studies, a range of signature types has been identified. Identifying and dating such deposits is an important element in understanding late-Holocene tsunami hazard and risk. However, important questions such as, ‘do modern and palaeotsunami leave similar or dissimilar traces?’ ‘do tsunami leave the same signatures all around the world or are there s…

  • Late Quaternary climates of the Australian arid zone

    Open Access•Paul P Hesse, Paul Hesse et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2004

  • Last Glacial Maximum to Early Holocene Wind Strength in the Mid-latitudes of the Southern Hemisphere from Aeolian Dust in the Tasman Sea

    Open Access•Paul P Hesse, Paul Hesse et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1999

Dust transported by Southern Hemisphere mid-latitude westerly winds from Australia and deposited in the Tasman Sea shows no evidence for stronger winds during the last glacial maximum (LGM), compared to the Holocene. Features of the particle-size distributions of the dust do, however, indicate enhanced dry deposition of dust in the LGM changing to rainfall scavenging during deglaciation and the early Holocene as climate ameliorated. From these re…
