Diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder with the MMPI
Clinic patients with diagnoses of either major depression or somatization disorder were given the MMPI. Women with somatization disorder had high scores on Keane's MMPI scale (PK) for posttraumatic stress disorder. We describe the results of a follow-up study on patients with hysteria using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) to evaluate the multiple complaints of these patients. Alcoholics Who See a Psychiatrist Compared with Those Who Do Not
Patients who had sought treatment for alcoholism at a psychiatric clinic were similar to alcoholic relatives who had not sought treatment, except that depressive symptoms were more evident in the treated alcoholics. The implications with regard to the recognition of alcoholism as an illness by the general public are discussed
Consistency of Drinking History and Diagnosis of Alcoholism
A drinking-history questionnaire was completed by 176 male felons and repeated 8 to 9 years later. The more extensive the original drinking problem, the more likely the subject was to be consistent in his answers at follow up, suggesting that inconsistency in 26% was largely a manifestation of mild or borderline alcoholism
