The contributions in this Explorations section reveal differences across countries in the support systems of the elderly and shows that poverty among the elderly has not been eliminated, even in rich countries. Social insurance systems with an adequate minimum benefit do the best job of avoiding poverty among elderly women. Determinants of the Increasing Work Attachment of Married Women
Between 1966 and 1976, the proportion of married women in their late thirties who exhibited a strong attachment to the labor force increased faster than the proportion with a weaker work attachment. This article focuses on factors that have encouraged or prevented strong attachment. This article examines the effects of living in a single-parent family on the high school completion of young women after controlling for the effects of family income.
