Leaving no one behind
Maternal CoC completion was lower among WwD, especially those with lower socioeconomic status. Effective strategies that ensure disability-friendly maternal health care services will play a pivotal role. Maternal health service programs should prioritize women's disability status alongside other key socioeconomic factors and address health care barriers to ensure more equitable and comprehensive maternal health care
Health-related quality of life, service utilisation and costs for anxiety disorders in children and young people
Promoting adolescent mental health in Tanzania and Vietnam through a co-created universal school-based initiative
This article assesses a 10-month co-created universal school-based mental health (SBMH) promotion initiative for adolescents (10–19). The study combined quantitative and qualitative components. Pre- and post-intervention surveys were conducted in four schools in Tanzania ( n = 400 baseline, 488 endline, with 100 intervention participants at both) and eight schools in Vietnam ( n = 1,036 baseline, 893 endline and 436 in panel). In each country, ~9…
Effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of models of maternity care for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds in high-income countries
Association between children's health-related quality of life, healthcare costs and socioeconomic position
Equity in healthcare service access and use are national goals and principal indicators of health system performance. Whilst it is important to understand how healthcare costs, socioeconomic position (SEP), and children's well-being are associated, limited literature explores how these covary. To explore the associations between families' SEP and (1) children's health-related quality of life (HRQoL) from 4 to 13 years; and (2) healthcare costs fr…
How healthy and affordable are foods and beverages sold in school canteens? A cross-sectional study comparing menus from Victorian primary schools
Objective: Government policy guidance in Victoria, Australia, encourages schools to provide affordable, healthy foods in canteens. This study analysed the healthiness and price of items available in canteens in Victorian primary schools and associations with school characteristics. Design: Dietitians classified menu items (main, snack and beverage) using the red, amber and green traffic light system defined in the Victorian government’s School Ca…
Goldilocks Days
BACKGROUND: One size rarely fits all in population health. Differing outcomes may compete for best allocations of time. Among children aged 11-12 years, we aimed to (1) describe optimal 24-hour time use for diverse physical, cognitive/academic and well-being outcomes, (2) pinpoint the 'Goldilocks Day' that optimises all outcomes and (3) develop a tool to customise time-use recommendations. METHODS: In 2004, the Longitudinal Study of Australian Ch…
Health‐related quality of life of children with low language from early childhood to adolescence
BACKGROUND: Low language abilities are known to be associated with significant adverse long-term outcomes. However, associations between low language and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are unclear. We aimed to (a) examine the association between low language and HRQoL from 4 to 13 years and (b) classify the children's trajectories of HRQoL and language and examine the association between language and HRQoL trajectories. METHODS: Data were…
The impact of a community-based intervention on weight, weight-related behaviours and health-related quality of life in primary school children in Victoria, Australia, according to socio-economic posi…
The WHO STOPS intervention had differential effects on several weight-related behaviours according to SEP, including physical activity. Similar impacts on HRQoL outcomes were found between high and low SEP groups. Importantly, the trial evaluation was not powered to detect subgroup differences. Future evaluations of CBIs should be designed with an equity lens, to understand if and how these types of interventions can benefit all community members…
Collaborative learning practices
While the educational literature mentions several obstacles affecting the effectiveness of collaborative learning (CL), they have often been investigated through the perceptions of only one actor, either teachers or students. Therefore, some sources of obstacles that teachers and students encounter may not have been revealed. In this study, 19 teachers and 23 students in different disciplines at a pre-service teacher education faculty at a univer…

City's Planning Eras
Objectives Smart Cities , Healthy Kids (SCHK) is a population-level intervention study examining neighbourhood planning and design on children's physical activity. The general hypothesis of this study, which takes a ‘whole-of-a-city’ approach to examining urban design, and over the length of time since the city's founding, is that city's planning eras have a varied and measurable effect on children's physical activity. Methods 1610 Saskatoon chil…
