    Open Access•A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2025•Referências: 1

Long-term archaeological excavations have been carried out at a large group of Late Neolithic (Zaisanovka culture) settlements on the left bank of the lower Partizanskaya River in southern Primorye, mostly dating to early 2nd millennium BC and somewhat earlier. Remains of half-dugout dwellings were unearthed. Many sites, including Sopka Bulochka, Sopka Bolshaya, and Pereval, have been previously published. The only exception is Pod Lipami, a site…

  • Inner Asia at the dawn of history

    Open Access•A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников et al.•CHAPTER•The Cambridge history of early…•1990

The end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries brought to light exceedingly important discoveries by archeologists on the continent of Asia. For the first time Asia appeared to the students of the distant past as a land where complex events had occurred which were related to the beginnings of the human race and where cultures, frequently high cultures, had come into being, displaced each other, and left profound imprints on world his…

  • The Cambridge History of Early Inner Asia

    Open Access•Robert N Taaffe, А П Окладников et al.•BOOK•The Cambridge history of early…•1990•Citada por: 11

This volume introduces the geographical setting of Central Asia and follows its history from the palaeolithic era to the rise of the Mongol empire in the thirteenth century. From earliest times Central Asia linked and separated the great sedentary civilisations of Europe and Asia. In the pre-modern period 'Inner Asia' was definable more as a cultural than a geographical entity, its frontiers shifting according to the changing balances of power. W…

  • Images of Bears in the Neolithic Art of Northern Asia

    R S Vasil'Evskii, R S Vasilʹevskiĭ et al.•ARTICLE•Soviet Anthropology and Archeology•1990

Images of bears are one of the most ancient and widespread subjects of primitive art. They appeared as early as the Paleolithic and became well known through the remarkable cave paintings of the Franco-Cantabrian region of Europe, even today striking our fancy with their artistic realism and expression, as in the playful leaping bear cubs, executed by deft strokes on the walls of the Three Brothers cave.1 The French scholar A. Leroi-Gourhan calcu…

  • The Riddle of the Ulalinka

    A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников et al.•ARTICLE•Soviet Anthropology and Archeology•1984

Siberia strikes our imagination not only with its endless expanses, but also with its tremendous productive resources. Its role in the construction of socialist society is growing steadily. Nonetheless the principal wealth of Siberia is not oil and gas, diamonds and coal, torrential rivers and Baikal water, the purest in the world,1 but people, their creative energies, their intellectual riches, their courage. Everyone knows about the steadfastne…

  • Early Siberians from Lake Baikal and Alaskan population affinities

    Open Access•William S Laughlin, A P Okladnikov et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1976•Citada por: 2•Referências: 2

Among the materials excavated by the 1975 joint USSR–USA team in Siberia are two burials from Shaman's Cape, Olkhon Island, Lake Baikal. One is a middle‐aged male of the Serovo culture, 6,000 B.C. , and the other is a young male of the Glaskovo culture of 2,000 B.C. This later burial displays an unusual pathology affecting the nose and post‐cranial regions of the pelvic girdle and lower limbs. Osteon analysis confirms the determination of age at …

  • "The Land of the Bearded Ones"

    A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников•ARTICLE•Soviet Anthropology and Archeology•1968

In 1940, on the little island of Faddei near Cape Cheliuskin in Sims Bay on the Taimyr, hydrologists unexpectedly discovered traces of tragic events that occurred nearly 300 years ago, in about 1619-1620, in these wild and still deserted places at the "edge of the world." The hydrologists found vestiges of a wintering camp established as the result of a catastrophe and the last camp of some unknown Russian seafarers. Among their belongings on the…

  • Nels Christian Nelson (Obituary Sketch)

    A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников•ARTICLE•Soviet Anthropology and Archeology•1967

When the vehicle carrying the Soviet-Mongol Archeological Expedition of 1949 paused in the Baindzak basin at the Flaming Cliffs famous in the history of exploration of Central Asia and I saw, on the yellow sand of the Gobi, a field of stones worked by prehistoric man, I was reminded of the words of Nels Christian Nelson, etched in my memory long since, on the Stone Age camps and industries of this territory. Thin and transparent milky-white flake…

  • Ancient Settlements in the Main River Valley, Chukchi Peninsula

    Open Access•A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1962

A newly discovered late Neolithic culture of riverine hunters and fishermen becomes the third major culture known in the Chukchi-Koryak region of Northeast Asia. The arctic maritime hunters ancestral to the Eskimo have long been known, and recently evidence for an inland group of hunters in the northern reindeer and fish areas has been encountered. The Neolithic hunters and fishers lived in temporary, probably winter camps of semisubterranean hou…

  • The Paleolithic of Trans-Baikal

    Open Access•A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1961•Citada por: 3

Paleolithic remains, mostly surface finds from blowouts, are known from 63 sites in the Trans-Baikal, one of the five large regional subdivisions of the Siberian Paleolithic. Most important recent discoveries are the stratified sites of Oshurkovo and Sannyi Mys and the Pleistocene faunal sequence on Tologoi Mountain. Characteristic stone tools are made from whole or split pebbles and from blades removed from prismatic cores. Bone artifacts, known…

  • A Note on the Lake El'gytkhyn Finds

    Open Access•A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1960

Two Russian publications provide new information about the sites on Lake El'gytkhyn in the Chukchi Peninsula: a detailed description of the lake, a discussion of its origin, summary description of 33 blades from the craftsman"s hoard, and 13 objects from the campsite. The fine classification of the blades is criticized and the identification of some of the other tools is questioned

  • New Traces of an Inland Neolithic Culture in the Chukotsk (Chukchi) Peninsula

    Open Access•A P Okladnikov, А П Окладников et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1959•Referências: 7

The El'gytkhyn site consists of a cache of stone artifacts and a nearby campsite on the shores of Lake El'gytkhyn on the central Anadyr plateau. The cache contained some 50 artifacts, both knives and points made on large flake-blades and carefully retouched by pressure flaking, and blanks from which they were made. Similar points were found at the campsite along with scrapers and other tools, many retouched chips, prismatic nuclei, and the blades…
