  • Screening Carbon‐Efficient Urban Woody Plants in High‐altitude Xining

Open Access•Huilin Yang, Yitong Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2026

Urban green spaces are increasingly expected to support municipal carbon mitigation, yet species-level evidence remains scarce for high-altitude cold cities. We quantified seasonal net photosynthetic rate (Pn) and estimated growing-season canopy CO2 assimilation potential for 106 commonly planted urban woody species (58 trees and 48 shrubs) across sixteen urban green-space sites in Xining, China (2,261 m a.s.l.), during the 2025 growing season (M…

  • Effects of cumulative exposures to climate-related disasters on social capital

Open Access•Ang Li, Rebecca Mcnaught•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2026

Background: Social capital is recognised as a key resource that supports disaster recovery. Yet, as climate change drives more frequent and overlapping disasters worldwide, our understanding of how consecutive or compounding events affect social capital – its access and capacity to aid community recovery – remains limited. This study investigated how multiple disasters affected social capital, what explained variations in these effects across com…

Open Access•Jieying Li, Fang Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2026

Tracking data have enhanced the analysis of football performance; however, defensive pressure remains insufficiently operationalised. This study aimed to develop a Defensive Pressure Index (DPI) based on movement tracking data, to examine its association with defensive outcomes, and to explore whether DPI differs across running score. Positional tracking data from 30 Chinese Super League matches during the 2018 season were analysed, yielding 2,03…

  • Knowledge-Augmented Interpretable Network for Zero-Shot Stance Detection on Social Media

Open Access•Bowen Zhang, Daijun Ding et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2025

Stance detection on social media has become increasingly important for understanding public opinions on controversial issues. Existing methods often require large amounts of labeled data to learn target-independent transferable knowledge, which is infeasible under zero-shot settings where the target is unseen. Furthermore, most current stance detection models, primarily based on end-to-end deep learning architectures, lack transparency and may pr…

Open Access•Peerachet Porkaew, Tingshao Zhu et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2025

Depressive symptoms pose a significant mental health challenge globally, including in Thailand. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a sentence completion test for depression using large language models (LLMs). To improve objectivity and reduce bias in assessments, this study detects and classifies the trends in depression, modernizing the screening process with a newly developed depression sentence completion test. Housing experiences upon settlement can shape refugee mental health and wellbeing; however, little is known of how housing precarity evolves as refugees establish their new lives and how it affects their wellbeing. We use longitudinal data (Building a New Life in Australia, n = 2,399) over five years (2013-18) to identify refugee housing trajectories in relation to housing precarity (measured by unaffordability, unsuitability, and insecurity) and…

    Open Access•Ang Li•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Background Implementing machine learning prediction of negative attitudes towards suicide may improve health outcomes. However, in previous studies, varied forms of negative attitudes were not adequately considered, and developed models lacked rigorous external validation. By analyzing a large-scale social media dataset (Sina Weibo), this paper aims to fully cover varied forms of negative attitudes and develop a classification model for predictin…

  • Immune Dysregulation in Sars-CoV-2 patients coinfected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) or HIV in China

Open Access•Lei Li, Jianxiang Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

We found that SARS-CoV-2 patients coinfected with Mtb or HIV exhibited a longer disease duration and longer LOS, with a decrease in B cells and CD4 + T cells, suggesting that these cells are related to immune function. Changes in cytokine levels suggest that coinfection with Mtb or HIV does not result in dysregulation of the immune response. Importantly, we discovered a chronic course of coinfection involving more than four months of Mtb and SARS…

Open Access•Shiyang Weng, Ang Li et al.•ARTICLE•Trans/Form/Ação•2024•Referências: 12

By employing a combination of literature review and logical induction, Paul Lengrand's lifelong writings regarding philosophy of physical education were methodically gathered, classified and synopsized. An astute analysis has indicated that Paul Lengrand's lifelong perspective on philosophy of physical education was shaped, in no small measure, by his singular historical context, societal exigencies, and personal encounters. Moreover, it has been…

  • Nonlinear effects of pandemic uncertainty on depression, pandemic preventive behavior intentions, and positive life attitudes

Open Access•Zeyu Liu, Yun Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Backgrounds: COVID-19 is difficult to end in a short time and people are still facing huge uncertainties. Since people's lives are gradually returning to normal, the sense of control and intolerance of uncertainty, which were mainly focused by past studies, are not specific to COVID-19 and will be more influenced by some factors unrelated to the pandemic. Therefore, they may be difficult to accurately reflect the individuals' perceptions of uncer…

Open Access•Lin Li, Yinxiao Dong et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ecotourism•2023

Ecotourism is a promising solution for channeling tourism revenues to promote nature conservation and poverty alleviation. However, vulnerable social-ecological conditions may limit the effects of ecotourism in dry rangelands around the world. This study implemented a paired experimental design to survey social-ecological impacts of ecotourism in Ergun grassland, one of China's most commended ecotourism regions. Compared with livestock feeding bu…

Considering this and building on Howden-Chapman’s early glossary of housing and health and the WHO Housing and Health Guidelines, this paper introduces a range of housing and health-related terms, reflecting almost 20 years of development in the field. It defines key concepts currently used in research, policy and p…

Australia experienced some of the world's longest and most stringent lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. While lockdown measures had consequences for mental health, investigation is lacking on the potential for green and blue space coverage within people's local environments to ameliorate the impact of lockdowns with varied lengths using longitudinal cohorts. This study examined the impact of lockdown durations on population mental health and…

Alors, allez-y ! Prenez-en une b…

Emotional abuse was significantly positively associated with telomerase activity. There are at least two non-mutually exclusive explanations for the findings. Simply put, either (1) in the cultural context of Hong Kong emotional abuse was not a risk factor, and/or (2) the conceptualization of telomerase activity as a straightforward indicator of longevity is overly simplistic. The first story we might term a "resilience explanation" while the sec…
