The curvilinear relationship between stress and mental health
Predicting Fear of Failure in University Athletes
Grounded in basic psychological need theory (BPNT), this study examined the link between mindfulness, need satisfaction/frustration, and fear of failure in university athletes. A sample of university athletes ( n = 309) completed a survey form measuring the major study variables of interest. The results of regression analysis showed that mindfulness significantly and positively predicted need satisfaction, while it significantly and negatively pr…
Short-term dynamic changes in mental well-being under stress
The change patterns of well-being when under stress are contentious issues. The hedonic adaptation theory and sustainable happiness theory suggest divergent patterns, potentially tied to the distinction between hedonic and eudemonic well-being. This study aimed to explore how daily stress and lifetime stress influence short-term change patterns in hedonic and eudemonic well-being. The study involved 241 participants in a 14-day daily diary study.…
Online photography intervention reduces internet addiction during Covid ‐19
The COVID‐19 pandemic has escalated concerns regarding internet addiction. This study investigated the impact of an online photograph intervention on internet addiction and identified its effectiveness mechanisms. Individuals diagnosed with internet addiction (internet addiction test score > 36, M age = 22.85, 78.6% women) were randomly allocated to either the intervention ( n = 64) or control ( n = 81) groups. For 10 days, the intervention group…
Fighting Covid-19 Misinformation through an Online Game Based on the Inoculation Theory
The COVID-19 pandemic was accompanied by the rapid spread of misinformation through social media platforms. This study attempted to develop an online fake news game based on the inoculation theory, applicable to the pandemic context, and aimed at enhancing misinformation discrimination. It also tested whether perceived threat and persuasion knowledge serve as underlying mechanisms of the effects of the intervention on misinformation discriminatio…
Handwashing adherence during the Covid-19 pandemic
The mediating effect of media usage on the relationship between anxiety/fear and physician–patient trust during the Covid-19 pandemic
OBJECTIVE: Our study explored whether and how media usage can mediate the path from anxiety and fear to physician-patient trust. DESIGN: = 1380) took place during March 17 to 24, 2020. Study 2 was a machine learning-based sentiment analysis in which data were captured from Sina Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website, among the most popular official, unofficial, and health-related media accounts. The screened blogs from November to December 2019 a…
Interdependent self‐construal moderates the relationship between pro‐generation investment and future orientation
INTRODUCTION: Cultural orientation and interdependent self-construal can moderate the relationship between perceived pro-generation investment and future orientation of young adults. To test how interdependent self-construal moderate the relationship between pro-generation investment and future orientation of young adults from two different cultural ecologies was the aim of the current study. METHODS: A cross-cultural comparison was conducted amo…
The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, risk perception, and perceived social support on public trust in physicians in China
A population-based, longitudinal study was conducted among 29 provinces in mainland China to investigate how public trust in physicians (PTP) changed since the outbreak of COVID-19 and how the resulting lockdown and social support contributed to its restoration. The baseline sample ( n = 3,233) was obtained during the period of the most rapid progression of COVID-19 (February 1 to 9, 2020, T1). Follow-up ( n = 1,380) took place during the recover…
