Science of Language Policy and Planning
Language policy and planning has a long history, but an explicit theoretical framework has only developed in the last 50 years. Usually the process is regarded in a unitary way, and called language planning, while the specific decisions involved are said to constitute language policy.

This article analyzes the processes of distribution and redistribution in postindustrial democracies. The authors combine a pooled time-series data base on welfare state effort and its determinants assembled by Huber, Ragin, and Stephens (1997) with data on income distribution assembled in the Luxembourg Income Survey (IJS) archive. The Proto-Sino-Tibetan etymon for this gourd reed-organ is reconstructible as *s-jan. Its use as a speech surrogate is widely reported, from the earliest sources to the present.
