Schools have a duty of care to children that extends beyond educational performance to include wellbeing and welfare. Yet, research has highlighted the tensions that arise when ‘care’ and ‘learning’ are treated as binaries, especially when schools operate within unequal socio-economic conditions. Coping plays an essential role in maintaining the wellbeing of patients with cancer. A number of different coping responses and strategies have been identified in the literature. The value and relevance of meaning based coping theory has also been emphasised, including Antonovosky's Sense of Coherence (SoC) theory. Disparities in Influenza Treatment Among Disabled Medicaid Patients in Georgia
Objectives. We explored possible disparities in seasonal influenza treatment in Georgia's disabled Medicaid population. We sought to determine whether racial/ethnic, geographic, or gender disparities existed in antiviral drugs usage in the treatment of influenza. Methods. Medicaid claims were analyzed from 69 556 clients with disabilities enrolled in a Georgia Medicaid disease management program. Results. There were 519 patients who met inclusion…
A Young Child's Use of a Physical-Psychological Metaphor
This article is a case study of a young child's extensive use of what is presumed to be a physical-psychological metaphor. The article includes detailed biographical data pertinent to the attribution of metaphor use. Hyperactive children and the efficacy of psychoactive drugs as a treatment intervention
Characteristics of hyperactive children, including speculation in regard to etiology, are reviewed. Drug effects studies and drug treatment of hyperactive behavior are examined, and unresolved issues are discussed. Conclusions indicate that individual differences in hyperative children should form the basis for treatment planning, rather than simply treating groups of children under the rubric "hyperactivity."
