  • Financial Regulation in the United States

    Open Access•Paul Peretz, Jean Reith Schroedel•ARTICLE•Public Administration Review•2009•Referências: 12

History is institutional memory writ large. One looks at economic history to see what problems recur, what causes them to recur, what solutions have worked best in the past, and which interventions have made the problems worse. We begin by showing how the political environment, the attitudes of the Chief, the administrative structure of the department, the budgetary environment, and the culture of the department all worked against the full acceptance of women in the department. We argue that without the decree the role of women would have c…

  • The Market for Industry

    Open Access•Paul Peretz•ARTICLE•Review of Policy Research•1986•Citada por: 6•Referências: 7

This paper investigates one of the perennial mysteries in the area of state and local finance, the provision of tax and other subsidies to business by federal, state and local governments in the face of solid evidence that such incentives do little to nothing to influence business location or job creation. The paper looks at the upsurge in such governmental aid in the last decade and considers whether this upsurge has occurred because such aid is…
