Young people, emotional suspicion and the emergence of paediatric selfhood in Palestine
This paper explores young people's relationships to emotions and mental health care in Ramallah, Palestine. Palestinian young people—via public anger, sadness, or even joy—are often marked as emotionally other in familial, institutional and other public spaces as part of NGO‐driven constructions of emerging paediatric selfhood. This article explores Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) diagnosis and early popular forms of the Evergreen model of attachment therapy popular in the 1990s. It argues that the Evergreen model operated as part of a biomedical knowledge regime designed to mediate and remediate flows of adoptable children in the United States. Fixity and fluidity - circulations, children, and childhood
Circulation is often essentialized as a prescribed, limited, and closed form of movement, 'fixed' in origins and destination, in intent and outcome. However, circulation may also be understood as a form of flexible movement, non-fixity or multiple stabilities (the act of living life in multiple physical and social locations). This article examines trends in emotion socialization in Russian children's homes ( detdoma) between 1996 and 2002, with a focus on attachment socialization.
