Our ethnographic fieldwork with Congolese and Zimbabwean economic migrants, asylum seekers, refugees and educational migrants reveals a complex narrative of exclusion and inclusion in South Africa. I detail the subtle progression of my relationship with my primary interlocutors, and our morphing circumstances during fieldwork and beyond. Xenophilia in Muizenberg, South Africa
Since the advent of democracy in 1994 race relations in South Africa have not improved substantially.
