Je voudrais dans cet article concentrer principalement mon attention sur un groupe linguistique qui, de façon générale, passe d’une certaine façon sous l’écran radar des politiques adoptées par le gouvernement fédéral : les 6,5 millions de francophones du Québec. Après avoir identifié quelques sources d’inquiétudes concernant l’avenir du français comme langue publique commune sur le territoire québécois, je vais tenter d’en expliquer les causes. …

Je propose dans ce texte une réflexion sur les communautés de langue officielle en situation minoritaire au Canada ainsi que sur le concept d’autodétermination. Dans la perspective qui est la mienne, l’autodétermination est au peuple ce que la liberté individuelle est à la personne. In this article I first develop a particular definition of misrecognition understood as a particular kind of political resistance to formally institutionalized rights of persons and peoples. Drawing upon a chance find of a cache of love-letters penned by Italian women in the late nineteenth century, this article investigates an emotional landscape that is rarely documented in the archives: the amorous feelings of ordinary women. The writers were anonymous, literate and presumably fairly well-to-do women from various regions in the southern half of Italy. I try to avoid as much as possible the traditional dichotomy between the exclusively civic and ethnic accounts, and try to explain my reasons for doing so.
