Law enforcement’s increased presence in U.S. public schools has significantly affected Black students’ access to opportunities and their overall safety. Limited attention has been paid to the broader context in which school policing operates, extending beyond school buildings and embedded in larger neighborhood dynamics. Spatial and Temporal Distance Between the Victim and Offender as a Factor in Protective Order Violations
Research on the effectiveness of protective orders indicates that they have only marginal protective value for the victim. This exploratory study investigated how the physical distance and temporal distance between the victim and offender corresponds to the percent of protective order violations. Results indicated that the percent of protective order violations was reduced to virtually zero when the victim and offender lived 25 miles or more apar…
Homicide Illustrated Across the Ages
Objective: A total of 34 years of FBI Supplementary Homicide Reports were examined using statistical graphics to illustrate patterns across ages, by sex, and victim/offender relationships (intimate partner [IP], other family, acquaintance, or stranger). Patterns of Injuries
This study uses two types of independent variables, age and the location of the physical wound, to develop a model of injury patterning that identifies violent behavior without direct observation of the assault. In this research, domestic violence injuries are compared to accidental injuries. The results indicate that there are specific and predictable injury patterns that separate abuse from other kinds of wounds. A logistic regression model was…
The health impact of floating support
Under the Supporting People Programme, low‐level ‘floating’ support is available to help vulnerable people live independently in their own accommodation. There is a good deal of research to indicate that this sort of support, particularly in social housing, is effective in helping people to sustain their tenancies, and that their well‐being and self‐esteem are improved as a result. The support plan is central to the Supporting People programme. A service user without one is not eligible for funding, and it forms a core objective of the formal Quality Assessment Framework. The mausolea that safeguarded the remains of the Commanders of the Faithful are not preserved among the meagre remnants of 'Abbāsid Baghdād. The history of these prominent buildings can be reconstructed from historical sources, however, and their significance sketched. The evidence presented here is not new, but it may profitably be reviewed with regard to funerary practices, terminology, and the development of Islamic architectural forms
