    Open Access•Benjamin Savine, Thomas Coates•ARTICLE•Internet Archaeology•2026•Referências: 2

The recovery of a small lithic assemblage from excavations during improvements to the A1237/B1224, Wetherby Road roundabout, York, demonstrate that the area was being exploited, at least in a limited way, as early as the Neolithic. The earliest feature was defined as such by its stratigraphic relationship with a pit radiocarbon dated to the Bronze Age, and from which a rubber-stone for a saddle quern was recovered. Activity at the site had intens…

  • Health care workers’ perceptions and bias toward men as HIV clients in Malawi and Mozambique

Open Access•Kathryn Dovel, Rose Paneno et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

Men are underrepresented in HIV services throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Little is known about health care worker (HCW) perceptions of men as clients, which may directly affect the quality of care provided, and HCWs’ buy-in for male-specific interventions. Focus group discussions (FGDs) were conducted in 2016 with HCWs from 15 facilities across Malawi and Mozambique and were originally conducted to evaluate barriers to universal treatment (not HCW…

Objectives. We examined whether and how an HIV prevention diffusion-based intervention spread throughout participants’ online social networks and whether changes in social network ties were associated with increased HIV prevention and testing behaviors. Methods. We randomly assigned 112 primarily racial/ethnic minority men who have sex with men (MSM) to receive peer-delivered HIV (intervention) or general health (control) information over 12 week…

This paper examines the approaches heterosexual men and women in South Africa use to engage their partners in discussions of HIV and risk factors in their relationships. These strategies entail balancing the risks of infection while managing the challenges of maintaining a relationship. In a context in which there is a great deal of insecurity in relationships it is especially challenging to discuss HIV risks with partners. Our findings reveal th…

  • Effect of a Community Popular Opinion Leader HIV/STI Intervention on Stigma in Urban, Coastal Peru

    Open Access•Sean D Young, Kelika A Konda et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2010

Evaluating interventions that reduce HIV stigma may help to craft effective stigma-reduction programs. This study evaluates the effects of a community popular opinion leader HIV/STI intervention on stigma in urban, coastal Peru. Mixed effects modeling was used to analyze data on 3,049 participants from the Peru site of the NIHM collaborative trial. Analyses looked at differences between the comparison and intervention groups on a stigma index fro…

  • Use of Non-Occupational Post-Exposure Prophylaxis does not Lead to an Increase in High Risk Sex Behaviors in Men Who have Sex with Men Participating in the EXPLORE Trial

Open Access•Deborah Donnell, Matthew J Mimiaga et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2010

Non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis (nPEP) use is an HIV prevention strategy that has been recommended by the CDC to prevent HIV infection after a high risk sexual exposure since 1997. In a behavioral intervention trial of 4,295 MSM we assessed perceptions and use of nPEP over 4 years in six cities across the United States. Overall, 1.9% of MSM reported use of nPEP prior to enrollment, and 6.3% at least once during the trial. Awareness of …

Recent attempts to integrate geographic information systems (GIS) and participatory techniques, have given rise to terminologies such as participatory GIS and community‐integrated GIS . Although GIS was initially developed for physical geographic application, it can be used for the management and analysis of health and health care data. Geographic information systems, combined with participatory methodology, have facilitated the analysis of acces…

  • Vulnerability and sexual risks

Ximena Salazar, Carlos F Cáceres et al.•ARTICLE•Culture Health & Sexuality•2005

Young people constitute a priority for sexual health research, policy and planning. Many studies, however, regard youth as a homogeneous group defined by developmental stages and their problems as inherent rather than factors resulting from structural vulnerability. Ethnographic data from this study provided strong evidence of the inappropriateness, in prevention interventions, of the concept of 'young people' as a group defined only by age and g…

  • Positive and negative life events after counselling and testing

Olga Grinstead, Olga A Grinstead et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS•2001

METHODS: This report explores the social consequences of HIV VCT by examining the incidence of positive and negative life events at the first follow-up (an average of 7.3 months after recruitment).
