Parents with Enduring Child Disputes
The normative course of the divorce process is one of heightened anger and conflict, anxiety, diminished communication, and sadness or depression for one or both partners. Frequently caused by feelings of betrayal, abandonment, suspicion, and sharp disappointment, these emotions are often accelerated by the separation and the adversarial nature of the divorce. In this article, controversies and problems with parental alienation syndrome are discussed. Reasons for Divorce
A 27-item checklist of reasons for divorce was administered to 437 men and women divorcing in the mid-1980's. Factor analysis revealed nine dimensions underlying the checklist responses. The most frequently cited factors were unmet emotional needs/growing apart, lifestyle differences or boredom with the marriage, and high conflict, demeaning relationships. Brief interventions with children in divorcing families
This paper describes preventive clinical interventions developed for children of various ages in divorcing families. Formulations regarding assessment, limitations, and strategies in these brief interventions were developed in the course of a five-year clinical research project studying the impact of divorce on children

A conceptual framework for the development of child-centered, preventive clinical services for divorcing families is presented. The structure and components of an intervention service--including treatment strategies, successful interventions, failures, therapist role, transference and countertransference responses, and professional dilemmas--are discussed
