  • Modes of Mindfulness in Post-Catholic Ireland

    Open Access•Thomas G Carroll, Thomas Carroll•ARTICLE•Religions•2024•Referências: 47

The Republic of Ireland has undergone a seismic religious and social transformation in recent decades. Through the processes of secularization and detraditionalization, as well as several major scandals within the Irish Catholic Church, irreligiosity has become an increasing reality in terms of the hitherto overwhelmingly Catholic population. At a time of spiritual climate change in this post-Catholic Ireland, the contemporary phenomenon of mindf…

  • Mindfulness as praeparatio evangelica in the Irish Catholic Primary School

    Open Access•Thomas G Carroll, Thomas Carroll•ARTICLE•Irish Theological Quarterly•2023

Mindfulness has exploded in popularity across several elements of Irish society, including Catholic primary schools. This growth of the practice is set against the backdrop of a secularized and detraditionalized Irish society. This changed context for religious belief, as explored by Michael Paul Gallagher, Charles Taylor and Lieven Boeve, has challenged the Irish Church’s mission of evangelization. The challenges faced by Irish Catholic schools,…

  • Mindfulness in Catholic Primary Schools

    Open Access•Thomas G Carroll, Thomas Carroll•ARTICLE•Religions•2023•Referências: 40

Irish Catholic primary education operates within a context increasingly marked by detraditionalisation and secularisation. As religious belief and identity recedes in Ireland, Catholic schools face challenges in enabling the children they serve to develop a personal relationship with God and nurturing their faith formation and development, an important element of the mission of the Catholic school. At the same time, mindfulness practice has grown…

  • Participants and Study Decliners’ Perspectives About the Risks of Participating in a Clinical Trial of Whole Genome Sequencing

Open Access•Jill O Robinson, Thomas Carroll et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Research on…•2016•Referências: 1

An increasing number of individuals are being recruited to whole genome sequencing (WGS) research. When asked hypothetically, the majority of the public express willingness to participate in this type of research, yet little is known about how many individuals will actually consent to research participation or what they perceive the risks to be. The MedSeq Project is a clinical trial exploring WGS in clinical care. We documented primary reason(s)…

  • Livelihood improvement and smallholder beekeeping in Kenya

    Thomas Carroll, Thomas M Carroll et al.•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•2013•Citada por: 4•Referências: 10

This article examines the potential of beekeeping, as an appropriate livelihood strategy for smallholder farm households using the sustainable livelihoods framework. A study undertaken over a six-year period (2004–9) with over 300 small-scale farmers in Kenya's Rift Valley Province found that despite excellent revenue earning potential, honey yields and returns remain comparatively low. Compared to maize, the staple crop of most Kenyan farmers, i…

  • Grassroots support organisations in Peru

    Thomas Carroll, Thomas F Carroll et al.•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•1991•Citada por: 3•Referências: 4

Private developmental organisations have emerged rapidly and forcefully in Peru, amid a turbulent national context of change and acute social and economic instability over the last two decades. While no official statistics exist on the number of such organisations (there is no single entity that oversees or registers their activity), independent studies and surveys indicate that almost 350 groups, of diverse objectives and coverage, are currently…
