A digitally enabled home-based wound care program using the Pedals model
Background: Chronic wounds impose a significant burden on patients and caregivers because of complications such as pain, infection, and repeated trips to and from hospitals. These challenges are compounded by prolonged healing times and substantial socioeconomic costs, particularly in aging populations and resource-limited settings. The Digitally Enabled Home-Based Wound Care (DE-HBWC) program facilitates the organization of home visits by caregi…

Case Report
This case report describes an innovative study using central combined vagus dual-target magnetic stimulation for treating non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). PD is a common neurodegenerative disease, and almost all PD patients experience varying degrees of non-motor symptoms. However, there aren't many targeted drugs for non-motor symptoms. Based on this clinical, we used left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and vagus nerve dua…

Transforming rural gender culture
Rural culture, encompassing farming, autonomous, and ethical cultures, has shaped rural communities through residents’ practical engagement. The involvement of rural women in these activities is expanding, yet their contributions have not garnered adequate attention. The gendered habitus theory posits that women, through societal interactions, internalise gender-specific tendencies, behaviours, and attitudes, influencing the rural social and cult…
A network analysis of the interrelationships between depression, anxiety, insomnia and quality of life among fire service recruits
Background: Research on the mental health and quality of life (hereafter QOL) among fire service recruits after the end of the COVID-19 restrictions is lacking. This study explored the network structure of depression, anxiety and insomnia, and their interconnections with QOL among fire service recruits in the post-COVID-19 era. Methods: This cross-sectional study used a consecutive sampling of fire service recruits across China. We measured the s…

A comparison of quality of life between older adults living in high and low altitude areas
Background High altitude is known to have a significant impact on human physiology and health, therefore, understanding its relationship with quality of life is an important research area. This study compared the quality of life (QOL) in older adults living in high and low altitude areas, and examined the independent correlates of QOL in those living in a high altitude area. Methods Older adults living in three public nursing homes in Xining (hig…
Changes in Blood Pressure Variability in Children with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome
(1) Objective: In this research, we explored the difference in blood pressure variability (BPV) between children with postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and healthy children. Furthermore, we tried to investigate the effect of BPV on POTS and its relationship with prognosis of POTS. (2) Methods: 47 children with POTS (11.2 ± 1.8 years, 23 males) were enrolled in the POTS group and 30 healthy children (10.9 ± 1.9 years, 15 males) were matched for…
Prevalence of depression and its association with quality of life in patients after pacemaker implantation during the Covid-19 pandemic
Depression is common among patients having undergone pacemaker implantation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anxiety, central symptoms of depression (i.e., "Sad mood", "Poor Energy", and "Guilt") and depressive symptoms linked to QOL (i.e., "Sad mood", "Appetite", and "Fatigue") identified in this study are promising targets for interventions and preventive measures for depression in patients who have undergone pacemaker implants
Neglected Rural Women
The main objective of the thesis was to analyze the structure, distribution, and impact of women farmers who have been neglected for a long time in the agricultural development of mainland China based on the national population census data from 1982 to 2020. Findings showed that the proportion of female agricultural labor force in 24 regions increased to varying degrees from 1990 to 2010. Areas where the distribution of female agricultural labor …
Validation of the 33-Item Hypomania Checklist-External Assessment in Screening Adolescents for Bipolar Disorder
The HCL-33-EA, with a two-factor structure, seems to be a useful tool for screening for BD in depressed adolescents. However, the high sensitivity and low specificity of the HCL-33-EA at the optimal cut-off value of 7 indicate that the HCL-33-EA needs to be further refined for young patients
Mapping network connectivity between internet addiction and residual depressive symptoms in patients with depression
Both key central and bridge symptoms found in the network analysis could be potentially targeted in prevention and treatment for depressed patients with comorbid Internet addiction and residual depressive symptoms
Gender Differences in Body Appreciation and Its Associations With Psychiatric Symptoms Among Chinese College Students
Chinese college women reported lower BA than their male peers did. Furthermore, among women but not men, elevations in BA corresponded with protective mental health experiences including lower levels of depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms and suicidality. Findings underscore the potential utility of including BA in mental health assessments of Chinese college students, especially women. Findings also provide foundations for continued research o…
The Association Between Internet Addiction and Anxiety in Nursing Students
Background: Nursing students who suffer from co-occurring anxiety experience added difficulties when communicating and interacting with others in a healthy, positive, and meaningful way. Previous studies have found strong positive correlations between Internet addiction (IA) and anxiety, suggesting that nursing students who report severe IA are susceptible to debilitating anxiety as well. To date, however, network analysis (NA) studies exploring …

The Prevalence of Depressive and Insomnia Symptoms, and Their Association With Quality of Life Among Older Adults in Rural Areas in China
Background: There are few studies on the epidemiology of depression, insomnia, and their association with quality of life (QOL) in older adults living in rural China. This study examined the prevalence of depressive and insomnia symptoms, and their association with QOL in community-dwelling older adults in a rural area in Anhui province, China. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in the rural areas of four cities (Hefei, Huaibei, …
Association of early-life undernutrition and risk of dyslipidemia in adulthood
Early-life undernutrition increased the risk of TC, TG, LDL-C, and dyslipidemia. Gender would significantly modify this effect for TG and LDL-C. These results emphasize the importance of nutritional conditions in the early stages of life to long-term health consequences
Cultural hybridity and bilingual creativity
Growing out of a particular cultural and historical milieu of bilingualism, cultural hybridity, and transnationalism, Ha Jin’s self-translated work A Good Fall (落地) employs “nativized” discourse norms and strategies to convey the particularities of two language systems. Despite numerous studies about his English works, limited attention has been paid to his self-translation. This article studies how Skopos dominates his employment of translation …

The Dear Diane Letters and the Bintel Brief
This paper employs assimilation theory to examine the experiences of Chinese and Jewish immigrant women at similar stages of their encounters with America. By focusing on the letters in Dear Diane: Letters from Our Daughters (1983), and Dear Diane: Questions and Answers for Asian American Women (1983), and earlier in the century, the letters translated and printed in A Bintel Brief: Sixty Years of Letters from the Lower East Side to the Jewish Da…
