Examining the Absence of a Gender Effect on Abortion Attitudes
Earlier research on attitudes toward abortion has found little or no difference between men and women. To the limited extent that there is any gender effect, men are slightly more inclined than women to be prochoice (e.g., Cook, Jelen, and Wilcox 1992). Gender, Religious Identity and Work Force Participation
Differences in work force participation by religious identity for time of interview and at age 16 (stable nones, apostates, converts, switchers, and stable religious) for men and women are investigated using General Social Survey data for 1973 through 1985 (N = about 14,900). Denominational and attendance differences in attitudes toward a broad range of family issues are examined using NORC data for whites (N of about 11,000) for 11 polls conducted between 1972 and 1984. Findings are presented with and without controls for sex, age, income, education, and region. Protestant fundamentalists along with Baptists and Catholics were most conservative; Lutherans, Methodists, and Presbyterians were moderates; and Episcopalia…

In theory and in practice, the classical Hindu system of law has been seen as both logical and irrational (Chaudhuri, 1979: 198 and Glucklich, 1984: 143–144) and principled but inconsistent (Glucklich, 1982: 59).
