  • Paradoxical inscriptions of global subjects

Laurence Tamatea, Joy Hardy et al.•ARTICLE•Critical Studies in Education•2008•Citada por: 3•Referências: 11

This paper presents an analysis of Asia-Pacific international school web pages, and explores the expressed purposes of schooling, with regard to the kinds of students/subjects that the schools purport to produce. Using the concept of globalization as a 'master' analytical frame, it is argued that despite claims to offering students unique experiences, international school web pages reproduce similar discourses in the construction of the student a…

  • "In the Neighborhood of"

    Joy Hardy•ARTICLE•Mind Culture and Activity•2006

This article proposes that resonances exist between the curriculum vision advanced by the Panel for Education for Sustainable Development (1998) and key Bakhtinian motifs, such as dialogism, polyphony, and heteroglossia. Joy Hardy•ARTICLE•Educational Philosophy and Theory•2002•Citada por: 3•Referências: 1

Emmanuel Levinas has been acclaimed as 'one of the most significant ethical thinkers of the twentieth century' (Kearny & Rainwater, 1996, p.122), as 'the greatest moral philosopher of this century' (Bauman, 1992, p.41) and as one whose thought 'can make us tremble (Derrida, 1967/1978, p. 82). These outstanding accolades from leading figures in contemporary philosophy follow assiduous engagements, both critical and interpretive, with Levinas' ethi…

  • Chaos in Environmental Education

    Joy Hardy•ARTICLE•Environmental Education Research•1999•Citada por: 1•Referências: 7

Random behaviour, perfectly controlled by deterministic laws, is the seemingly paradoxical definition of ‘chaos’. Hence, chaos theory reconciles order and disorder, and portrays an evolutionary universe based upon a delicate interplay of chance and necessity. These findings have raised fundamental questions regarding the nature of reality and humankind's dialogue with reality. In response, many theorists, both within and beyond the natural scienc…
