  • Chronology and glass chemistry of tephra and cryptotephra horizons from lake sediments in northern Alaska, USA

    Open Access•Alistair Monteath, Alistair J Monteath et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2017

Holocene tephrostratigraphy in Alaska provides independent chronology and stratigraphic correlation in a region where reworked old (Holocene) organic carbon can significantly distort radiocarbon chronologies. Here, we present new glass chemistry and chronology for Holocene tephras preserved in three Alaskan lakes: one in the eastern interior and two in the southern Brooks Range. Tephra beds in the eastern interior lake-sediment core are correlate…

  • Glacial landforms of northwest Saskatchewan

Open Access•Sophie L Norris, Martin Margold et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2017

A comprehensive map of glacial landforms is presented for the area of northwest Saskatchewan, Canada. Remote sensing of 1-arc (∼30 m resolution) Shuttle Radar Topography Mission digital elevation models over an area of approximately 15,000 km2 were used as the primary data source for landform identification. A total of 16,856 landforms were identified pertaining to Quaternary glacial and postglacial activity. Ten landform types were mapped: ice f…

  • Middle Pleistocene (MIS 7) to Holocene fossil insect assemblages from the Old Crow basin, northern Yukon, Canada

    Open Access•Svetlana Kuzmina, Duane G Froese et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2014

  • A High Resolution Chronology for Steward's Promontory Culture Collections, Promontory Point, Utah

    Open Access•John W Ives, Duane G Froese et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2014•Citada por: 10•Referências: 28

Despite the rich array of perishables Julian Steward (1937) recovered during his 1930s excavations, the Promontory Cave assemblages were dated in relative terms with just a handful of radiocarbon assays until recently. Yet Promontory Caves 1 and 2 are the type sites from which the Promontory Culture was defined, and these assemblages have a critical bearing on our conception of three significant issues in western North American prehistory: the te…

  • Relict ice and thermokarst during past interglaciations in eastern Beringia

    Open Access•Duane G Froese•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • Environmental Change and Traditional Use of the Old Crow Flats in Northern Canada

    Open Access•Brent B Wolfe, Murray M Humphries et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•2011

  • The variegated (VT) tephra

    Open Access•Britta J L Jensen, Shari J Preece et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2011

  • Plant Macrofossils Associated with an Early Holocene Beaver Dam in Interior Alaska

Open Access•Simon Robinson, Simon G Robinson et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•2009

Dynamic climate changes and expansion of new biomes characterize the late Pleistocene–early Holocene of eastern Beringia. Analysis of plant macrofossils from an early Holocene (ca. 9300 14C yrs BP) beaver dam in central Alaska provides insight into the local environment and vegetation. The plant macrofossil assemblage comprises remains of trees and shrubs, graminoids, and forbs, including Betula sp., Carex sp., Rubus sp., Eleocharis sp., Scirpus …

  • Global tephra studies

  • Rise and Fall of the Beringian Steppe Bison

Open Access•Beth Shapiro, Alexei J Drummond et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2004

The widespread extinctions of large mammals at the end of the Pleistocene epoch have often been attributed to the depredations of humans; here we present genetic evidence that questions this assumption. We used ancient DNA and Bayesian techniques to reconstruct a detailed genetic history of bison throughout the late Pleistocene and Holocene epochs. Our analyses depict a large diverse population living throughout Beringia until around 37,000 years…
