The Interplay Between Helping Behavior and Absenteeism in Teams
This study employed a longitudinal model to investigate the reciprocal relationships between interpersonal citizenship behavior (OCB-I) and absenteeism at the team level. The research utilized four waves of data from a sample comprising over 5,000 employees in 168 teams within a large Canadian public organization. Drawing upon the focus theory of normative conduct and the collective identity perspective, our findings indicated that a positive cha…

Improving Access to Health Services in French
Language barriers have a detrimental impact on access to health services and compromise patients’ safety. Method: Data was extracted from the 2013-2018 pro…
How and When Relative Leader–Member Exchange (RLMX) Invigorates Attendance at Work Within a Context of LMX Differentiation
This study examines how, why and when relative leader–member exchange (RLMX) influences absenteeism through the mediating effect of feelings of vigor, and the moderating role of unit-level leader–member exchange differentiation (LMX differentiation). Data collected from a Swiss retailer sample of 486 employees within 52 stores shows that RLMX is positively related to feelings of vigor, whereas feelings of vigor are negatively related to absenteei…
Are Leaders and Followers Receiving What They Give? A Long-Term Examination of the Reciprocal Relationship Between Relative LMX and Relative OCB-Helping
Relying on social comparison theory and the norm of reciprocity perspective, the present study aims to longitudinally investigate the specific relationships between relative leader–member exchange (RLMX) and relative organizational citizenship behavior (ROCB). We examined the potentially bidirectional relationship between these two constructs using data consisting of 1,420 time-lagged observations from 725 employees surveyed at multiple time poin…
Understanding the effects of (dis)similarity in affiliative and aggressive humor styles between supervisor and subordinate on LMX and energy
Prior studies on humor have primarily focused on the effects of either leader or subordinate humor styles and thus have neglected the influence of (dis)similarity in humor styles between supervisor and subordinate. We draw on the similarity-attraction perspective to suggest that (dis)similarity in supervisor’s and subordinate’s affiliative and aggressive humor influences workplace energy via the leader-member exchange (LMX). Results show that LMX…
Good Things Are Not Eternal

Data from 1,857 employees in 116 business units of a Canadian retailer collected over four waves were analyzed using random coefficient modeling. Our results sh…
The Role of Humor in the Relationship Between Transactional Leadership Behavior, Perceived Supervisor Support, and Citizenship Behavior
This study, building on uncertainty management theory, examines the role of humor use by the supervisor and team members in the relationship between leader behaviors, perceived supervisor support, and citizenship behavior. Data were collected from a sample of 284 employees working in nine small organizations. The results show that weak contingent reward leaders are viewed as more supportive when they use constructive and self-defeating humor styl…

Career Plateau and Work Attitudes
This study examines the effect of objective and subjective career plateau on the attitudes and behavior at work of a population of 2183 managers from three sectors of the Canada economy. Our study corroborates others that have found that "plateaued" and "non-plateaued" individuals respond differently to their work environment. Our results indicate that career plateau is associated with a number of consequences, once we have controlled for the eff…
