Burnout prevalence and its association with occupational stress, effort-reward imbalance, and depression among professional and semi-professional basketball coaches
OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of burnout in French female and male professional and semi-professional basketball league coaches, and to explore associations between burnout level and work stressors, perceived stress and depression. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. METHODS: and Fisher tests) and multivariate (logistic regression model) analyses. RESULTS: Eighty nine of the 216 coaches and 216 assistant coaches participated in this study (r…
Beneficial effects of reduced soft tissue vibrations with compression garments on delayed neuromuscular impairments induced by an exhaustive downhill run
This study revealed the potential of compression garments to act as a mechanical support that attenuates high-frequency STV during downhill running and mitigates subsequent delayed neuromuscular alterations
Hamstring Muscle Injuries and Hamstring Specific Training in Elite Athletics (Track and Field) Athletes
Our present study reports that HMI is a characteristic of the athletics athletes' career, especially in disciplines involving sprinting. In these disciplines, athletes were performing higher volumes of hamstring stretching and sprinting than in other disciplines. Further studies should be conducted to better understand if and how HST are protective approaches for HMI in order to improve HMI risk reduction strategies
Relationships Between Performance and Injury Occurrence in Athletics (Track and Field)
Our present pilot study confirms that injuries are part of an athletes' life. The occurrence of at least one injury was associated with higher odds of participation in a national championship, whereas the absence of at least one injury was associated with higher odds of participation in an international championship. We hypothesised that the length of the season can play a role in the risk of injury occurrence, but if the athlete wants to reach h…
Exercise-Based Injury Prevention in High-Level and Professional Athletes
In regular times, implementing exercise-based injury prevention programs into the training routine of high-level and professional athletes represents a key and challenging aspect to decrease injury risk. Barriers to implementing such prevention programs have previously been identified such as lack of resources, logistic issues or motivation. The COVID-19 pandemic associated with restrictions on daily life dramatically impacted sports participatio…
Low Horizontal Force Production Capacity during Sprinting as a Potential Risk Factor of Hamstring Injury in Football
Clear decreases in horizontal force production capacity during sprint acceleration have been reported after hamstring injuries (HI) in football players. We hypothesized that lower F H 0 is associated with a higher HI occurrence in football players. We aimed to analyze the association between sprint running horizontal force production capacities at low ( F H 0 ) and high ( V 0 ) velocities, and HI occurrence in football. This prospective cohort st…
A Pandemic within the Pandemic? Physical Activity Levels Substantially Decreased in Countries Affected by Covid-19
Governments have restricted public life during the COVID-19 pandemic, inter alia closing sports facilities and gyms. As regular exercise is essential for health, this study examined the effect of pandemic-related confinements on physical activity (PA) levels. A multinational survey was performed in 14 countries. Times spent in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) as well as in vigorous physical activity only (VPA) were assessed using the…
Effect of an Unsupervised Exercises-Based Athletics Injury Prevention Programme on Injury Complaints Leading to Participation Restriction in Athletics
This cluster randomised controlled trial reported no efficacy of the AIPP. However, the overall response proportion and the compliance with the AIPP in the intervention group were low. In individual sports especially, efforts should be first made to improve the implementation and adoption of interventions
Sprint Specificity of Isolated Hamstring-Strengthening Exercises in Terms of Muscle Activity and Force Production
To train hamstring muscle specifically to sprint, strengthening programs should target exercises associated with horizontal force production and high levels of hamstring activity. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to analyze the correlation between force production capacities during sprinting and hamstring strengthening exercises, and to compare hamstring muscle activity during sprinting and these exercises. Fourteen track and field re…
Restrictercise! Preferences Regarding Digital Home Training Programs during Confinements Associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic
Confinement measures during the COVID-19 pandemic have caused substantial reductions in global physical activity (PA) levels. In view of the manifold health benefits of PA, the development of interventions counteracting this trend is paramount. Our survey with 15,261 participants (38 ± 15 years, 58.5% females) examined preferences towards digital home exercise programs in 14 countries affected by COVID-19. More than two-thirds of the sample (68.4…

Ten Tips to Hurdle the Injuries and Illnesses During Major Athletics Championships
Participating or winning a medal in major track and field (athletics) competitions is the goal of every athlete. However, health problems can impair sports performance and affect this dream. Therefore, we present ten tips to help hurdle the challenges of illness/injury at major athletics championships: (1) Prepare for travel (medical checking, vaccine, time-zone, jet lag, culture, food habits...), (2) Respect athlete characteristics and disciplin…
Biomechanical Pole Vault Patterns Were Associated With a Higher Proportion of Injuries
Background: Pole vault is a highly demanding sport where many physical and technical requirements are engaged in performance process. Considering level of energy transferred from athlete's horizontal speed to the pole during pole bending, we can imagine that associated musculoskeletal tensions, in addition to trials accumulation, can increase the risk of (specific) injuries. Given the multiple morphological, physical and technical characteristics…
A One-Season Prospective Study of Illnesses, Acute, and Overuse Injuries in Elite Youth and Junior Track and Field Athletes
Background: In high-level adult athletes, injury incidences and characteristics have been reported during international championships and during one season. Youth track and field athletes are also exposed to injury risk, although less information is available on this specific population, as well as on illness risk. Aim: To determine the prevalence of health problems (i.e., illnesses, acute, and overuse injuries) in high level Youth and Junior Tra…
Relation of Team Size and Success With Injuries and Illnesses During Eight International Outdoor Athletics Championships
Introduction: The number of injuries and illnesses during major athletics championships vary according to sex and discipline. They may also differ between countries (national teams) given the differences in training, medical care, nutrition, lifestyle habits, and in travel to the championships. In addition, injuries and illnesses may influence the performance during the championships. Therefore, the aim was to analyse the differences in the injur…
General Considerations on Sports-Related Injuries
Even a low-dose of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity reduces mortality by 22% in adults aged ≥60 years
