  • Steering change

Bing Yang, Hye Lim Sin et al.•ARTICLE•Tourism Geographies•2026

This paper advances a critical rethinking of rural tourism governance by foregrounding its affective, relational, and negotiated dimensions. Drawing on seven years of embedded autoethnographic fieldwork in Azheke Village, a UNESCO-listed Hani settlement in Yunnan, China, we examine the role of universities as deeply implicated actors in the co-production of alternative governance regimes. It situates governance not as a technocratic exercise in i…

The COVID-19 pandemic has been going on for over 3 years. There is no clear sign that different variants of coronavirus will disappear any time soon although majority of the countries in the world, including China, have removed their stringent pandemic control policies. For the time being, China has abolished its zero-COVID policy but has seen soaring cases of daily infections. The world is far from safe to travel and it is likely the virus will …

Xin Jin, Jigang Bao et al.•ARTICLE•Current Issues in Tourism•2022

The tourism industry, despite its vulnerability to external shock, is acknowledged for its ‘adaptiveness’ and ‘resilience’ to external pressures. Questions arise as to whether the industry can have a rapid recovery post the COVID-19 pandemic and if so, what factors may contribute to this rebound. Based on a nation-wide survey of 3388 samples, this study seeks an understanding of Chinese consumer travel psychology and behaviour post-Covid-19. The …
