Radiocarbon Dating of the Rate of Movement of Two Solifluction Lobes in the Ruby Range, Yukon Territory
The rates of solifluction of two lobes in the Ruby Range have been determined by 14 C dates of samples taken from buried organic layers in the lobes. Twenty-one dates are available from one lobe, and seven from another. When plotted against distance back from control points at the lobe fronts the dates show considerable scatter. Modernization and Rural Population Movements
In geographic studies of modernization, attention has tended to focus on the processes of urbanization and the characteristics of urban areas rather than on rural areas. The latter have been included in macro-scale studies such as those of Gould and Soja in Africa investigating the spatial diffusion of modernization. In their studies of change in the Pacific, Brookfield (1973) and his associates also worked in rural communities, concentrating on …

A portable hydraulic coring device facilitates rapid sampling of archaeological sites and collection of undisturbed sediment monoliths for reference in research and teaching. The modestly priced device may be used in dense forests or on terrain unsuited to more expensive, truck-mounted rigs
