  • Adolescents’ Subjective Well-Being Following Knee Injury

Open Access•Khadidja Chougui, Mireille Joussemet et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Child…•2025

During adolescence, knee injuries are common and can greatly affect patients’ subjective well-being. Social support has been identified as a buffer against ill-being after knee injury. Self-determination theory holds that optimal social support nurtures the psychological need for autonomy, which is defined as a sense of personal endorsement of one’s actions. This longitudinal study aimed to examine the contributions of perceived parent and physic…

  • The Belgrade 'Campscape

    Jessica Collins, C Minca•ARTICLE•Geopolitics•2024•Referências: 32

This article examines the institutional and makeshift refugee geographies of Belgrade, using Diana Martin’s concept of ‘campscape’. It argues for the importance of this concept as a lens through which the complex relationship between the presence of refugees, camps and the city may be analysed. Accordingly, it takes into consideration key refugee spaces related to the role played by Belgrade as a migration hub along the so-called Balkan Route: in…

  • The camp as a custodian institution

    Jessica Collins, C Minca et al.•ARTICLE•Geografiska Annaler Series B…•2022•Citada por: 5•Referências: 16

Care and control are concepts frequently invoked within Camp Studies, often as a means of characterizing the varied logics of institutional camps. This article builds on recent geographical literature by going beyond care and control and proposing a renewed focus on the idea of custodianship within a range of historical and contemporary camp contexts, from colonial and totalitarian concentration camps to present-day refugee camps. The notion of t…

  • Integrating Complex Systems Methods to Advance Obesity Prevention Intervention Research

    Open Access•Erin Hennessy, Christina D Economos et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education & Behavior•2020

Background. Whole-of-community interventions have been recommended and show promise for preventing obesity; however, research to understand the mechanisms underlying their success or failure is lacking. Complex systems approaches may be useful to address this gap. Purpose. To describe the evolution and utilization of qualitative and quantitative complex systems methods to understand and model whole-of-community obesity prevention interventions. A…

  • Compositional, Contextual, and Collective Community Factors in Mental Health and Well-Being in Australian Rural Communities

    Open Access•Jessica Collins, Jessica A Collins et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2017•Citada por: 4•Referências: 34

There are disproportionately higher and inconsistently distributed rates of recorded suicides in rural areas. Patterns of rural suicide are well documented, but they remain poorly understood. Geographic variations in physical and mental health can be understood through the combination of compositional, contextual, and collective factors pertaining to particular places. The aim of this study was to explore the role of "place" contributing to suici…

  • A Community Intervention Reduces BMI z ‐score in Children

Open Access•Christina D Economos, Christina Economos et al.•ARTICLE•Obesity•2007

Objective: The objective was to test the hypothesis that a community‐based environmental change intervention could prevent weight gain in young children (7.6 ± 1.0 years). Research Methods and Procedures: A non‐randomized controlled trial was conducted in three culturally diverse urban cities in Massachusetts. Somerville was the intervention community; two socio‐demographically‐matched cities were control communities. Children ( n = 1178) in grad…
