This article presents the results of interdisciplinary research encompassing conservation, archaeological excavations, ethnographic, ethnomusicological and historical studies on the Colonial murals documented in the Ixil Maya residences of Chajul (Guatemala). Excavations in large platforms in the center of Ceibal revealed extensive early Middle Preclassic constructions. They consisted of extensive clay platforms that supported low basal structural platforms.
