  • Fields and settings

    Open Access•Michel Achard•ARTICLE•Cognitive Linguistics•2010•Referências: 2

This paper argues that in the context of the copular complement construction (est possible que ‘is possible that’ for example), French possesses two impersonal constructions respectively introduced by il ‘it’ and ça (c') ‘this’. This analysis runs counter to most syntactic accounts which structurally distinguish impersonals (il) from dislocated (ça) constructions. Two arguments are proposed in defense of the two impersonals analysis. First, follo…

  • The distribution of French intransitive predicates

    Open Access•Michel Achard•ARTICLE•Linguistics•2009•Referências: 12

This article investigates the distribution of intransitive predicates in French. It argues that within each individual construction, the constraints that govern predicate selection are determined by the necessary semantic compatibility between the participating predicates and the construction itself. This “local” analysis based on the lexical semantics of specific verbs and constructions contrasts with most previous accounts that follow the Unacc…

  • Perspective and syntactic realization

    Open Access•Michel Achard•ARTICLE•Linguistics•1996•Citada por: 1
